Coronation Street
Peter Adamson (Len Fairclough)
Jennifer Moss (Lucille Hewitt)
Chris Quinten (Brian Tilsley) - not necessarily a "sacking" but when the actor demanded time off to do "other projects", the writers had Brian murdered.

forgot about Jennifer Moss, was reading about her the other day..14 years she was there. i reckon she'd still be there now if she hadn't been sacked.

Me too. I would love to see Lucille make a return to the Street at some point, even just as a one off appearance.

Lucille was a fantastic character and it was the first time that viewers saw a character grow up with them. When the programme started in 1960 Lucille was 11 years old, and 25 when she was sacked. That's an amazing run for any actor.

have seen her in a few old eps when she lived at the Rovers with the Walkers..would be great to see her pay a visit to the street, she'd be about 55 now

David Easter (The last of the first cast members to be standing) was axed and killed of in Family Affairs as Pete Callan before the show's axe. Silly move.

She was sacked because like any job you cant pick and choose when you work for a company. If I left my job to do other things I wouldnt expect my employer to keep it open for me, and neither should Martine. I cant understand how Letita Dean keeps getting away with it.

Lynne Perrie wasnt a controversial sacking she was a joke towards the end and deserved to go.

I dont think any sackings are particually controversial, thats the name of the soap game and keeps a programme fresh, however it does annoy me when producers fire somebody becuase they have "run their course" thats down to bad writing in my opinion.

Best move they ever done! Which is why it wasn't axed that year even if it died another day!

Apparently Martine was in her car going along the motorway when she heard her own character's imminent death announced on a radio station! She was so upset she had to pull over!

Martine's was the most controversial of the lot. She was the biggest soap star in the country at the time playing a part in the biggest soap at the time.

She says in a way she is pleased becuase she would never have released three albums got a No.1 single and ended up in the West End and in a Hollywood movie. Not a bad move from EastEnders...

it was the whole 'mutual decision as they both felt the character had nowhere to go' scenerio...she was pretty much told her character was coing to an end and she had no choice but to agree. such a waste..fantastic character

Neighbours always sack the wrong people if you ask me. Angie Rebecchi will always be a f*cking legend, very popular with fans and should never have been sacked. Philip Martin's family had run its course but I wish they could of found some way of keeping him in it, and the Bishop's were a great family, I think the producers really f*cked up writing them out because the show no longer has any real families and they were always very likeable.

totally agree, glad they saw sense and reinstated Harold after his initial axing in 1992. seeing as Phil had re-married there wes plenty of scope left for his character, was fab to see him again in the 20th birthday episodes. And as for Angie, she's a legend, and i love it when she returns. Not too sure either but i think Caroline Gillmer was axed as Cheryl Stark - yet another bad move

Yeah Phil Martin always had this genuinely good Dad thing about him, I always thought so anyway. Like you said, he had remarried, and they could have kept him in the show, but I guess they wanted to bring the Scullys in, a family I never really liked apart from the remaining two! Angie was awesome and the fact that she has been back so many times shows the producers realise this, but a permanent return would have been great. Cheryl Stark was another classic character, I always thought she was the 'one' for Lou and the way she went out of it was utterly pointless.

Going back to Brookside, Susannah was a fantastic superbitch and I thought Karen Drury acted the part perfectly. Shame that she didnt go on to bigger and better things.
