Lapland [Finland]

Hi!

I just wondered if anyone has been to Lapland before, the 'north pole', where 'santa lives' ?! If so, how long for, and what did you think of it?!

We are thinking about booking up to go for 1 night and 2 days (£1,600 for three of us!) We're not bothered about the price... (well,.. we are!) - but we figure its something we want to do in life, just to experience the snow and the cold & meeting santa in his very own house! A great memory to have for the rest of our lives.

Originally I thought Lapland was actually on the north pole (like, directly on top of the earth on the map) - so I was pretty surprised when I'd heard it was in Finland!! I persuaded mum to go this year because I mentioned about global warming - soon (i say soon, probably about 100-1000 odd years mind!) there won't be any ice, and there'll be no lapland!

Can't wait!

i've not been to Lapland, although friend say it's great.

i went to iceland last year, and the place is stunning, the most beautiful place i have ever been, and can't wait to go back for a week in March.

the northern lights are magical.

I've not been there seen on doc. on TV though, i'd hurry up and go as I read an article not long ago that said Santa was having financial problems, so has had to have alot of cutbacks with the elves and a few other things.
So i'd get in there before he lose the rest of his assets

Be careful where you book, there are many resorts to choose from. Some a pretty awful, basically a shopping centre in the snow. If you want an authentic experience, you might have to do some research. My cousin went last year and really enjoyed it, I'll ask her where she went.

We quite fancy Iceland at the end of year. It's a pain to get to from here as we have to fly down south from Aberdeen via a different airport only to fly back up again.

Hi! If you could do that, that'd be really appreciated!

I went dog sleding in Longyearbyen which is the worlds most northerly town. It was dark for 24 hours a day but it was great. As the island is a Norwigen settlement there was no santa though.

Have a great time in Finland though when you go.
