Lily Allen

.. is number one!

Now, as much as I get the fact that singers these days have to be more than just that - good songs, good attitude, etc - surely having a modicum of singing ability is still a necessity?

In which case why is Lily Allen so popular? She sounds like nails down a blackboard.

David.

Maybe to you, fair enough. But maybe to others she doesnt?.
For eg, I think Chris Martin has a whiny horrible voice, but millions disagree with me. Everyone hears different things with music, the actual sound might be the same, but the way each individual experiences it can be be very different.

You know she's Keith Allen's daughter?

It's puzzling to me that artists such as Lily Allen and Sandi Thom can have so much success with so little talent (especially when there are lots of other great female singer-songwriters around).

I think it's a combination of publicity, hype and the fact that they appeal to young teenagers that does it.

Sandi Thom - so terrible. I'm with you there.

That song make me want to rip out my own ear drums with my bare hands and feed them to the dog. That dog being Sandi Thom.

Her 'vocals' on the song 'Smile' are out of tune, out of key & the song itself was written by someone with the mental age of 11.

Everything about Lily Allen typifies most that is wrong with the youth of today.
Chavvy attitude & drugs for starters...

Listen to the song 'Alfie' from her album. I don't think she glamorises drugs or anything like that.

I think she has a lovely voice and her album is actually really good. It doesn't matter who her Dad is.

Sandi Thom, on the other hand, p*sses me off big time!

Oh and I agree about Chris Martin - will he shut up and go away!!

if you think she has a bad singing voice, then i'm damn well confused. i happenned to hear her sing live on radio 1 ther other day and she sounded great. i thought she had quite an ironically angelic voice actually.

I love her music and her voice and no I did not like James Blunt

I also heard her on radio one and thought her voice was very distinctive which is my criteria for liking a voice. I tried to buy the album last week but was a week out so will buy this week. I have listened on line to London town, Alfie, Cheryl Tweedy and Smile and loved them all so should be a good buy

If you're refering to T in the Park (or her MTV performance), she used a method called "sing verse, mime chorus". Only half of it was live, the rest was playback.

She did the same on Transmission with T Mobile (or whatever it's called). The reason she does it is, basically, she can hardly sing a note. The people who are claiming she has the voice of an angel blah blah blah, really should check out this site:

for my twopence worth
if you look at her video on the website she basically gets her ex boyf beaten up, his flat smashed up, his records scratched while she "smiles", now fair enough if shes getting back at him for f****** that girl next door, but if the video had been the other way round, girl gets beaten up etc etc "OUTRAGE"
any thoughts?

She can.......She has done quite a bit of acoustic stuff, the reason she quietens down on the chorus is because she has harmonies coming over the top of the tune she is singing, and the backing vocals are herself singing

I suppose you want to complain she hasn't cloned herself now.

I have to say 'Smile' is one of those oh-so-rare things these days - a classic pop single. And you will still hear it being played on the radio and on jukeboxes in 20 years time. It's just one of those songs.

From the Sun :

I'll celebrate with coke

CHART sensation LILY ALLEN has made a showbiz super-howler – saying she will celebrate her first No1 by taking CLASS A DRUGS.

If Smile's the kind of record she makes on cocaine what kind of bland drivel would she churn out sober?
