Never mind the housemates, what about the house?

I can't believe they cant build a house that can't survive for 9 weeks without looking so disgusting to us poor viewers.

Fair enough, there's a hosepipe ban, but the garden looks like the deserts of Nevada, with those stupid lumps proving not only to be pointless but also an eyesore.

It seems to me that the problem is, as with several of the housemates, style over substance.

They spend tens of thousands on the furnishings, but cant quite predict that they will need carpets that will easily be cleaned, gardens that will last the whole series and so on.

Thinking back to the halcyon days of BB1, the house was styled by Matalan, or IKEA at best, and the housemates were average looking but interesting. With the exception of Darren, Tom and Mel, i doubt any BB1 housemates would have made the cut this year, as BB7 seems to be based on factors relating to how many magazines the girls will sell when booted out, and how many teenies will vote to keep in the 'fit' boys.

Clearly, Jayne being the token 'ugly' doesn't fit this rule, but is she really a housemate, or a sideshow attraction to coast through some of the traditionally more boring weeks before being booted out to a largely uninterested voting public.

For next year, i'd like to see a back to basics policy on decor - chairs and tables instead of objets d'art, lino instead of vomit stained carpet, because let's face it, is there really anyone apart from Davina and the featured manufacturers that actually care what the house looks like on opening night?

I've just completed a pre-dissertation on how the design of the bb houses affects the housemates and the producers pre determined narrative for each series.

Each house is designed and furnished to make the hms behave and react in certain ways. Hence the BB4 house being quite spacious, decorated in pastel colours with comfortable fixtures and fittings, this series was destined to be the "cosy" one where everyone got on.

Contrast that with the BB5 house, which consisted of sludgy clashing colours, harsh angles and limited space, guaranteed to heighten stress levels and confrontations.

This year's house has been designed so there is nowhere (except nowhere!) to escape from fellow hms. The inside out theme is supposed to confuse hms, but to be quite honest it's more confusing for the viewers! I agree with you about the quality of the furnishings, but the majority of these are donated by the suppliers.

It would be interesting if for BB8 they did a completely basic house, but unless that is the theme of the series I can't see it happening

I do agree about the grass - given the water situation this year they should have used sand and given them a beach instead of a garden.

I know it really makes me sick. They won't allow a proper vaccuum because the noise might affect their shots of susie making tea or whatever. That's why i think lino would be better, they could mop and sweep.

BB1 was fitted out by Ikea, I still sleep on my BB1 stylee iron bed (third matress).

I do feel it should be mentioned that so far there have been 21 and a half HMs this year with 14, 15 or even 16 in at any one time. And if there is one thing every single one of them has in common is they are not exactly house proud. NO BB HM ever has been, it does not help that a vaccum cleaner is not allowed (cover up conversations) AND they are never supplied with cleaning products, heck if it were a choice between eating and cleaning the house I think even my mother would take some pasta and sauce over a can of Mr Sheen and some dusters, believe me my mother is STILL cleaning the house in this heat, as she did yesterday and will be tommorrow.

One thing is I suspect we should be all grateful it isn't smelly vision.

Do you think then that it is part of BB's plan for the house to get really skanky? maybe to incite arguments and so on? If so i still can't see why they would bother to furnish it with designer stuff. If that's their plan, why not get salvation army furniture in?

The house carpets are disgusting as well.. I could heartily vomit every time the camera zooms in on HM's actually lying on the filthy thing.

you are of course quite correct. BUT 100 + HMs in seven years and she was the only one who knew which way a duster goes. FFS I'm not overly houseproud but even I would be desperate for a can of Pledge.

I don't know how they can even walk barefoot on that nasty carpet. The house should have hard surfcace flooring that can be easily wiped down. I was watching Love Island yesterday and thinking how nice it was to see some pleasant surroundings. That BB grass is vile to look at.

It is truly gross, I'm not sure exactly what it was, but in the bedroom on the floor along the edges of the bottoms of the beds was a line of brown crumby looking stuff Blurgh!!!

They should be made to do the housework every single day before they are allowed to go out into the garden for example. If everyone did a little bit each it would be done in no time, and tidy up the effin' bedroom you lazy bunch of slobs! Surely if you can fit all your gubbins into a suitcase you can fit it under the bed FFS!

Bedroom door should remain locked until ALL cups, glasses etc. are cleared from all areas, washed dried, and back in their correct places before they are allowed to go to bed.

Oooh thass betterer, RANT OVER!

they should be made to empty the swimming pool with watering cans and get that garden back in shape. Then told under health and saftey rules they have to clean the house properley and give them the swabs that turn green if bacteria is present to make sure thaey do it properly

Ha Ha I know, but blimey even my 19 y/o would have flipped her lid at the state of the place by now, I'm surprised no one has fallen over all the debris on the bedroom floor and hurt themselves before now.

If they are bored why don't they make them follow a routine now and then.
