Railway man was seconds from death

THIS was the dramatic moment when a man escaped being run over and killed by a passenger express train at a West Midland railway station.

The man was spotted lying on the track at Olton station, in Solihull.

He faced certain death as the Birmingham to London train, operated by Chiltern Railways, approached the station on Saturday.

I'm assuming he laid there purposefully.

The story doesn't tell us that does it.

But I wouldn't have assumed that he laid down on the track for a nap because he was feeling tired.

He was lucky and so were the driver and passengers.

Yes, it appears he was drunk and fell onto the tracks.

Not in the suicide sense. I think he was drunk and had fallen off the edge of the platform.

Fate dealt him a very lucky hand.

I thought for a split second that he was working on the track but obviously not.

Who took the picture just moments before the train was about to hit him.
Or did someone run to get a camera, or tell the press to come quickly and record the near 'tragedy' while he was lying there.

Maybe I'm just being cynical, I hope not.

Probably by the time the picture was taken, the train had already stopped.

On a similar note, here is a very stupid incident I found on Youtube the other day.

I paused this movie at the moment of the nearest contact, and it's almost like the train brushes his leg.

Luckily, the person wasn't hurt.

But I warn you don't watch this if you are faint hearted.

It may sound harsh, but I think that guy deserved to lose a limb just to give him (and the person with the camera) a wake-up call.

It really is sad when someone needs to suffer a serious injury before thay and others realise the stupidity of their actions.

Whats really sad are the happy-snappy people who would rather take photos of this (and probably get a quick buck) than help the man. It reminds me of the Buncefield oil depot fire when people (putting their lives in danger) were literally running towards the blast to take vids and photos in vain attempts to send to the news channels. I can't say for sure, but I'd hope I'd be running in the opposite direction.

I guess certain death isn't as certain as it used to be...
