Changes to be made to KEEP BB Alive!!

Channel 4 and Endemol have realised that they can make even more money from the big brother format, and what they have tried to do over the last year is try to find out how they can do that?

I think that in their opinion, they wanted to fix parts of the show and put in PR models to aim more at a male audience (especially during the world cup) - ratings wise, its working, its been one of the highest rated big brother series ever.

The problem is, the show is supposed to be focused on REAL normal members of the public and REAL reactions. The amount of Fix alligations, PR models and bending the rules to suit certain housemates in Big Brother 7 takes the realism away which is what REAL fans want.

What Channel 4 now need to realise is that to save a multi million pound format, they must go back to how it used to be. The days of Big Brother 1 - 5. And if they are scared that the housemates are not doing much, give them tasks to do or wind them up? keep them doing something, then it wont be as boring as sitting around for 5 days to have a 2 day task. The tasks used to last about 4 - 5 days anyway.

I think that with the hired PR Models being (Nikki, Aisleyne, Grace, Imogen and Lea (kind of) ), they wanted to see how much we would buy into the fact that they are normal members of the public by testing it with Chantelle in CBB4, even though i think she is great, she is again another PR model who has worked with the likes of Nikki and Ais. When we bought into this and she became the winner, C4 thought that it might be a good idea to fill the house with PR models this time around.

But.... What do you get when you hire a PR model??? Their agents form contracts, and things have to work closely with C4 to make sure that things go a certain way. This also can take the realism awa from the show.

To ensure that the show continues strongly in the future, the show needs to return to a honest, real structure. Real housemates (Helen, Kate, Jonny, Brian eg.) and a honest but fun show that cant be accused of fixing because nothing is wrong with the show. So by all means, shout FIX FIX FIX on friday, it will SCARE Channel 4 even more and with the amount of fix alligations this year, they will go back to normal next year to keep the publics interest.
The show needs to remain on Channel 4 and NOT ITV, if ITV ever get old of it, it is definately R.I.P BB.

I am currently studying Broadcast Production, and there are many ways that this how can change for the good in which the public would enjoy watching it. They jist need to try a little harder.

All they care about is ratings and income. If they can get an extra million viewers by provoking a scandal, they will do it. A slap on the wrist and a tiny fine won't put them off. They are making millions. They have got what they want this year: high ratings. Why would anything change?

For another example, look at Coronation Street, which has been destroyed by going so many episodes per week. But ITV doesn't care. No thought for the future of the show. All that matters is high ratings now.

Unfortunately the horse has bolted and has already been shot dead and it's corpse paraded in an undignified manner on live TV.

OP excellent post. But i am not convinced that the producers truly truly care about the programme or the viewers just the product and what money they can make and forget about standards.
