Corrie ~ Monday 11th September

Monday 11 September 2006 7:30pm to 8:00pm

Ashley (Steven Arnold) is pleased when Claire (Julia Howarth) announces she is going to take baby Thomas with her when she goes to visit her sick mother Yvonne (Yvonne O'Grady). He confides in Audrey (Sue Nicholls) that looking after a new baby and helping her mother through her illness is taking its toll on his wife.

He thinks Claire has had a rough time of it lately but is happy she finally seems to be coping better. However, his world crumbles when a fit and healthy looking Yvonne enters the butchers fresh from a holiday abroad. Realising that Claire has been lying for weeks about her mother being terminally ill a panic stricken Ashley realises that he has no idea where his wife and newborn son are and sets about trying to track them down. Will Ashley be able to find locate the missing pair?

Meanwhile, a reluctant David (Jack P Shepherd) is taken to school by Gail (Helen Worth) in order to meet with the headmaster. The moody teen again refuses to name the culprits behind the bullying but when Mr Griffin (Roger Morlidge) informs a stunned Gail that she is breaking the law in keeping her son out of school the pressure is on for David to come clean. Backed into a corner will David reveal the
identity of his tormentors and is he telling the truth?

Elsewhere, over at Underworld Adam (Sam Robertson) hands over the reigns to Liam (Rob James- Collier) who wastes no time in stamping his authority when he sends Kelly (Tupele Dorgu) home to change her risqué outfit to something more suitable for the workplace.

Also, Cilla (Wendi Peters) is pleased when her items start to sell on the internet auction site and Steve (Simon Gregson) attempts to persuade Liz (Beverley Callard) to think about buying the Rovers herself.

This episode is written by Jan Mcverry, produced by Steve Frost and directed by Diana Patrick. Coronation Street is made by ITV Productions

07:30 Episode

Monday 11 September 8.30pm to 9.00pm

A clearly distressed Claire (Julia Howarth) arrives at the maternity ward and stuns the receptionist when she announces that there has been some mistake and she believes that the baby she has been caring for is not hers and demands to know where her real baby is.

Concerned for her well being the receptionist asks Claire to wait while she contacts a colleague. Seizing the opportunity the troubled new mother abandons baby Thomas in the toilets and heads off. Claire arrives back home with Joshua (Benjamin Beresford) but Ashley (Steven Arnold) realises baby Thomas is missing and he fears the worst.

Claire tearfully reveals that she believes Thomas is not her child as she has no feelings towards the young tot. A panic-stricken Ashley dashes to the hospital to retrieve his son. Once at the hospital he is relieved to be re-united with Thomas but his relief is short lived when the hospital staff informs him that Claire may be suffering from postnatal depression and that social services have been informed of Claire's actions. How will the young butcher come to terms with this latest bombshell?

Elsewhere, months after his indiscretion, Cilla (Wendi Peters) continues to make Les (Bruce Jones) pay for his one-night stand with Janice (Vicky Entwistle) when she announces she is using the money raised from her internet auctions to go an a holiday to Ayia Napa with friend Yana (Jayne Tunnicliffe).

Meanwhile, Liam (Rob James-Collier) presents Frankie (Debra Stephenson) with some flowers and she agrees to go out on another date with him but with Danny (Bradley Walsh) due back off holiday soon will Liam's relationship with Frankie cause problems in his business dealings with Danny?

Also, Gail (Helen Worth) is proud that David (Jack P Shepherd) has finally named his bullies? Is this the end of David's problems?

This episode is written by Jan Mcverry, produced by Steve Frost and directed by Diana Patrick. Coronation Street is made by ITV Productions.

Ugh Claire is such a crap character.

'It's nothing personal. it's for the best.'

That was a really good episode and the strongest first episode for a Monday. Again the Conners were great, I love the banter between the 3 of them and I thought Liam having a go at Kelly was hilarious!

The Peacock stuff was really good too, I'm glad Yvonne has made an appearance now, its all gathering pace.

The Cilla and eBay stuff is still good, I'm glad she's being nicer to Chesney now than she used to be in 2004.

8/10

Also the Platts were good too, Is David giving out false names? Gail's face when she heard that she was breaking the law!

Might be something to do with her Post Natal Depression. You know, I'm just taking a stab in the dark with this one ...

A solid start to tonight's double offering from the pen of Jan McVerry. I liked all the Ashley / Yvonne stuff. It was good to see Ashley's mood changed from seeing that Yvonne was looking well to realising that Claire had been lying about going to see her mother all along. Then, of course, the penny dropped:- Claire had the baby & nobody had a clue where she was. The final scene with her saying "It's nothing personal, it's all for a best" was a decent cliffhanger too.

Platt stuff was good as well. Liked Gail's reaction when Mr. Griffin told David that his mother was breaking the law by keeping him off school & that she could be facing a prison term by doing so. His tapping with the pen was very irritating. If only Gail had slapped him!

I also enjoyed Cilla's scene with Les in Streetcars office. She certainly knows how to wind him round her little finger & make him feel guilty, although how they can be skint when they're both working, they get board from Kirk & they hardly ever buy anything is a bit of a mystery.

Connor stuff was a bit dull (aside from Kelly being sent home). I didn't think much at all to the scene with Paul, Liam & Michelle outside The Rovers.

7 out of 10.

Good, solid stuff tonight. I think Claire's been very good.

Sally's such a creep, someone needs to slap her. Where's Janice?

Claire crying and giving the baby to the nurse, what very sad. The actress has been very good in this storyline. Good stuff from Corrie tonight.

I think her character is at her best at the minute, and Julia is doing a magnificent job acting her.

Blimey, even Ashley was good tonight.

Excellent stuff; those two were consistent, and the best Monday episodes for a good few weeks.

I'm finding it so hard to sympathise with Claire, even thought she is ill. She's turned so nasty, Im suprised Ashley hasn't snapped earlier.

Too much Battersbys for my liking. Claire is so deluded, I can't see her ever bonding with baby Thomas.

Excellent episode tonight. I really felt for Claire in the first half of the episode then felt sorry for Ashley, it must be hard for him. Corrie have handled this storyline very well and I certainly know more about PND now than I did before.

The Factory stuff was goof, nice to contrast the heavy Peacock stuff.

The Battersby's were OK and so were Liz and Steve, are they buying the pub?
