Disk Drive Jammed?
I have a disk in the disk tray, but when I press the open button, it won't open, and the computer is not reading the disk that is in there. Does anyone know what could have happened or have any ideas how to solve it?

I'm sorry to have to say this, but this happened to me a few months ago - it just wouldn't budge - I had to call a guy in to replace the whole bloody drive and it cost me a lot, too.
![]() I hope you don't have to do the same, try turning the computer's power off at the main plug and turning it on again - just a suggestion. |

A partly straightened paper clip or the smallest watch makers screwdriver is best.
It can be quite stiff/heavy - if you don't feel any resistance, you've missed the bar - try again. |

On a Desktop PC removing a CD/DVD Optical drive is a very quick and straightforward task that shouldn't take more than about 20 mins from start to finish. Replacement drives can be bought for around £20. I'd have charged you about £10 plus the cost of the replacement drive for that job. Sounds like you should change your IT guy. |
