High School Musical Viewing Figures

Quote:
LONDON - Almost 2m tuned in to watch Disney Channel's squeaky-clean teenage hit movie 'High School Musical' debut in the UK, ahead of its appearance on BBC One at Christmas, while the soundtrack is tipped to be number one this week.

How amazing for them. How on earth would they have known it would have been so successful, even though there was loads of promo. The viewing figures were expected to be around 250,000 I think!

Well done to them!

I am not surprised, the amount of time Disney spent plugging it on the channel, not to mention all the media attention it has been receiving.

Disney do have quite frequent adverts, but at least they're quite short and don't distract too much from the programme.

As for High School Musical, I watched it last Sunday. Extremely enjoyable, should be a good ratings winner for the BBC at Christmas.

I hardly ever go on disny channel now - which is a shame because I had no idea when it was on, I missed it and only found out about through one promo i saw on a sky channel.

Is the 2 million figure accurate though? Its not from a source well known for UK tv ratings info! I would have thought MediaGuardian would have picked it up if the ratings were that good

They advertised it every where! With ratings that high, who wants to bet we'll see even more with future Original Movies or new shows.

I expect them to do something big for the final That's So Raven episode, as well as other shows like on Jetix (that's Disney owned too).

they made a feature length Power Rangers movie called "Power Rangers Mystic Force - Dark Wish" on Jetix which would be out soon.

plus Disney are thinking about more musical movies and the sequel to High School Musical is coming soon.

Apparently not, according to TubeTalk:

The premiere set records for the Disney Channel, with a total of 1.2 million viewers for the four showings last Friday. The premiere showing peaked at 749,000.

I remember reading a review of this months ago when it first hit America and about all the hype and the soundtrack being the biggest fastest selling etc etc and I thought it was a spoof!

I really want to see this - i kept on seeing adverts for it in the last couple of weeks but all it ever said was coming soon - there were no details as to when it was on.

Does anyone know if it will be shown again and if so when?
