Moving AOL from PC to laptop query - Computing and Networks

Hope someone can help a techie desert with this! I currently have AOL broadband set up on the family PC using their external modem. What I would like to do now is buy myself a laptop for my own use and be able to access AOL from that. Ideally I would also like to still use it on the main PC when I want to. How would I go about first transferring it from PC to laptop and is it possible to have it on both. If that is possible would it have any effect on someone using the main PC while I am surfing on the laptop as Hubby uses main PC for gaming and he would go mad if it did! Lastly, not knowing about these things, can I take my laptop out of the house and use it elsewhere to connect to the net?

Which boadband package are you on and how much are you paying?

Wireless is your best option, but let me know and i'll give you the advice>!!

I'm on Gold at £19.99. Does that make some sort of difference?

OK, i'll assume you don't.

I was paying more than the 19.99 for my Gold. I called AOl cancellations. I told them i was not happy beause normal Aol new customers were geting wireless connections and better deals.

Without a problem they lowered mr to 19.99 and a free wireless kit was sent to me within days.

I have been with the for 3 years but i know others who got it to, who have been a customer for much less.

Call them, I'm pretty sure if you have been with them for a bit, they will oblige.

The benefit to you is....

You can use AOL on your laptop, whilst your partner can use the PC for gaming.

He can even use the net whilst you are loged onto aol, as long as he uses intrenet explorer while you are on AOL/

You cannot use the same aol acount at the same time in your home. But you won't have too.

Hope it makes scense.

In either case you need never use the aol sign on screen again. you both can just use internet explorer from the minute you turn on.
No sign up screen.

Thanks - yes I think that makes sense to me! I haven't got a wireless connection as I haven't needed it but I do know that AOL can give me that. He never actually uses the net as he's not interested so it would just be me using it via the laptop while he is gaming or me using the main PC while he is elsewhere. So I assume that via a wireless connection I would still have the benefit of all the antivirus and firewalls that currently exist on the PC? And can you tell me what I would do if I wanted to take the laptop out of the house? Would I still be able to access AOL or not? As you will guess I don't really understand how these things work! Really appreciate the advice.

yes you can but will only get dial up rate, and you will have to inform aol of the number..i think! ( others may help there)...BUT Call them and get a free router...let us know if you get it!!
