List of some Muslims who have made valuable contributions to this society

List of some Muslims who have made valuable contributions to this society:

Waheed Alli, or Baron Alli of Norbury in the London Borough of Croydon as he is known in the House of Lords, appears to be the embodiment of new Britain. According to the Sunday Times Rich List, Sir Anwar and his family "would be even richer if they did not give large sums to charity" - but giving to charity is a central tenet of Islam.

Sarwar Ahmed, 30, newspaper publisher.

Shami Ahmed's story is a rags-to-riches tale. But unlike the traditional groceries or restaurant businesses, his success is based on a canny exploitation of street cool. Ahmed developed the Manchester-based Joe Bloggs fashion empire, whose baggy jeans became synonymous with the "Madchester" indie-dance scene of the late 80s. T

Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, journalist and broadcaster.

In 1989, an 18-year-old from east London spotted a gap in the market. Mainstream newspapers had traditionally ignored ethnic minorities while community newspapers were dominated by news from 'back home'. So Sarwar Ahmed, the son of a Bengali journalist, launched Eastern Eye, a tabloid targeted at second-generation Asians, which has become the fastest-growing Asian newspaper in Britain.

It's not a piss take. I'm trying to show some of the positive contributions Muslims have made to this country, in the light of all the negativity. I really thought that was blindlingly obvious.

They all are to be celebrated. That was my meaning. I didn't realise people could be so literal.

What I meant was that the title was a piss take because of all the negativity on the forum. To me it was blindingly obvious. You can now direct your rant at the people who didn't get it, thanks.

Kim how is this any different than the everythings bad lets hide under our beds threads?

It seems we have the "everything is fine and dandy" crowd.
And if you dare say otherwise you are a racist or a bigot.

Or the "we are all going to die, their Burqas are boobtrapped with explosives and the end is nigh" crowd

Both as bad and as inflexible as each other in my opinion

Where am I saying everything is fine and dandy? I'm just trying to point out that not all Muslims preach jihad or force their women to be veiled or are dangerous to 'our' way of life. I thought, wrongly clearly, that it might be good to focus on some of the positive contributions that Muslims have made. But I do wish I hadn't bothered now.

I wish you hadn't since you seemed to have a dig at me when I was one who actually got the point!

Sorry, kania. I was taken aback by people not realising that. Thanks for realising it. I just thought you meant I was taking the pIss out of Muslims at first.
