Up In Flames One explosive week will change everything in Ramsay Street Sky goes into premature labour this week, after finding her ex-fiancé, Dylan, in a passionate embrace with Elle! The hurt and shock force the Ramsay Street teen into labour – and she gives birth to a beautiful baby girl, whom she names Kerry after her late mother. But the drama isn’t over – it’s only the beginning of the plot twists in these truly explosive episodes! Before the week is over, the hospital where Sky (Stephanie McIntosh) has just given birth will go up in flames, while in a separate incident, Carmella (Natalie Blair) will suffer horrific facial burns. And to make matters even more tense, Sky’s baby goes missing! This is one of the most dramatic weeks of the year on Ramsay Street. It all begins when Sky heads to Lassiter’s intent on talking to Stingray (Ben Nicholas) – the father of her unborn child – about his drinking problem. But a mix-up sends Sky to the wrong room, where she sees Dylan (Damien Bodie) in the arms of Elle (Pippa Black), clad in nothing but a bathrobe. Deeply hurt by Dylan’s apparent indifference to her, Sky later collapses and is rushed to hospital. “It’s a really hard thing for Sky to deal with,” Steph says. “On top of everything else, she feels like her world has ended, and the stress brings on the labour.” Back in the hospital, Sky’s in for a further shock when her unstable room-mate Teresa (Hannah Greenwood), lashes out at her for endangering her baby. While Teresa is quickly taken away and transferred to a psychiatric ward, Sky is medicated to try and halt the labour – but it fails to take effect. Later, Teresa escapes from the hospital and heads to her cousin Carmella’s house, where she steals her orderly uniform. When Carmella spots her in the street and chases after her, a crazed Teresa throws a saucepan full of boiling water in her face! “Teresa has gone to a lot of effort to make sure things go her way,” Natalie says. “She feels she has to eliminate Carmella because she knows her cousin will ruin everything she’s worked so hard towards in the last few months. That’s why she throws the boiling water at Carmella, then flees and does what she has planned to do.” Teresa makes her way back to the hospital in her disguise, where she proceeds to set the building alight – just as Sky gives birth to little Kerry. In the ensuing chaos, Sky’s newborn baby goes missing. Terrified that Teresa has taken her baby, a hysterical Sky is unable to be reassured by Karl (Alan Fletcher) or her grandfather, Harold (Ian Smith). It soon becomes apparent that Sky’s worst fears have been realised – Kerry has been kidnapped. “Everything happens at once,” Stephanie says. “Nothing could hurt Sky more. Her baby was out of her arms before she was even in them. It’s so awful – Sky becomes physically sick from the distress of it all. The pain and grieving is so full-on.” Meanwhile, the puzzling questions remain: has an unhinged Teresa kidnapped Sky’s baby, or is someone else responsible? And will Carmella recover from her terrible burns? Don’t miss it! Woman’s Instinct At 21, Stephanie McIntosh has plenty of acting and singing experience – but absolutely none in giving birth! So how did she prepare herself for the intense scenes in which her character, Sky, goes into labour? “The birth scenes were very full-on,” admits Steph. “It was pretty confronting. It was something that, when I was first given the storyline about a month beforehand, I thought I wanted to prepare for. But in the end, I just left it to my body and the way I was feeling on the day – and it went well. Once I’d read the scene, I wanted it to be very natural. I really wanted to be in the moment, and not over-prepare and get the anxiety built up about it. I just let it be. I was also told by the nurse on set that every birth is different, so there’s no wrong or right.” TV WEEK Oct 28 – Nov 3, 2006 By Jackie Brygel |
