Walkabout on ch5 yesterday afternoon - TV Programmes

I managed to see most of it but couldn't really understand why this film would be on pre watershed. There is a fair bit of nudity, they did show the naked aborigines but cut the scene of Jenny Agutter toally naked swimming. The young aborigine hangs himself, don't know if they cut that, got dragged to the shops. Can't fathom why this film was shown during the day, the swimming scene was integral to the underlying sexual tension in the film, they must be mad at ch5.

This film has a fairly long history of being shown in a heavily edited version. It's often seen as a children's film, possibly because of the use of Walkabout as a set text, possibly because it's about kids.
It's odd really, it's quite a disturbing pice imho. I suppose it comes down to the fact that if you cut out some of the nudity you're left with basically the whole film.

I remember watching it at school because we studied the story. Remember the bit when the girl was swimming but don't recall the Aborigine hanging himself!
I do remember hating it, though.
