Sick of being invited to Bebo.com Ahhhhhh

I don't want to opt out because I don't feel I should. This is spamming isn't it? the emails are coming from Bebo.com, not the user.

We shouldn't have to opt out of every profile website just because somebody had you on their msn or has ever emailed you has agreed to spam everyone?.

but what can you do? file an RBL nomination? report them to the information office?

Aparently it's an offence to hold information about users (ie email address) on file without their consent, this is under EU law and covers companies in the US spamming EU residents. I have reported them for that offence to the information office and I'll see what reply I get.

The emails do come direct from Bebo, they just make it look like it's a friend that sent it. They encourage users to enter the email addresses of everyone they know so that invitations can be sent out en mass. WAYN are doing it too and even though I've put my address on the 'do not invite ever' list, they still send them. I'm never going to sign up to some website that effectively spams you!

Don't feel bad about opting out, you're doing yourself a big favour (if they listen).

But bebo are one of just a few sites that import your whole address book and spam anyone you've ever emailed. A lot of people have emailed me and I have no idea who they are, the average hotmail address book must have 200 contacts or more in.

Just a quick update, I recieved this from their internet provider after making a complaint and filing an RBL Nomination.

assignment for the past week has been to sift through the abuse
requests, which have been managed by two disparate systems in the past
(a ticketing system and an e-mail system). Now we are migrating to an
all-email system; I just got to your messages about Bebo and
Birthdayalarm and forwarded them immediately to their sysadmins. They
will be in touch with you shortly.

Thanks,

They all suck, completely pointless. For people who want a social life but can't get one because it's on the internet, and emo plebs, goths and chavy kids. (IMV)
