Welsh firm could face action because there is no dragon meat in it's dragon sausages

Crazy. There are no real seals in Ronseal either or ducks in toilet ducks.

Dragon sausage food farce

Mike Jones, Western Mail

A Welsh food firm last night hit out at bizarre rules that have forced it to explain that its 'dragon sausages' do not really contain dragons.
The company has been warned it could face legal action for misleading people that it uses dragon meat in its fiery sausages.

Apparently the Trading Standards Council in Pwys were worried that vegetarians might think they contained no meat since dragons are mythical.

Sounds like some greedy lawyers chancing their arm. It's a shame they don't taste good in sausages.

Are Komodo dragons a protected species, BTW?

They should put in a pinch of dragon spice powder to make it legal!

I'd just assume they were spicy, meat sausages, and, as a veggie, I'd certainly check before buying. I wouldn't follow the mythical beast logic that trading standards have used.

Ridiculous. I suppose they think that most people are so stupid that they don't realise dragons are mythical.

Just more irritating and unnecessary interference.

It's absolutely nutty, isn't it? The only upside I can see is that maybe the publicity for these sausages will increase sales.

I've half a mind to go over to http://www.smoked-foods.co.uk/CW_Products.aspx?PID=290 myself.

I also just assumed 'Dragon' was used because the company is Welsh. There must be Red Rose foods or Thistle foods that contain no thistles or rose petals and therefore would risk upsetting the literalists of this world.

So I wonder what their stance is on Christmas Pudding ? they are called Christmas Pudding and then have the ingredients listed on the packs label , as far as I am aware there is no such product called Christmas , so they should have to change as well if they go by this type of ruling.

I am all for correct naming and labelling , but there are such things as brand names etc that should be an exception , as long as the full ingredients are listed on the item.

There's no little gold rocks in chicken nuggets and Popeye's girlfriend has not been pressed into olive oil (unless that's what extra virgin denotes!).

Actually I dont think that Trading Stanrds can do this . I have had a look and although in order to call certain items of food a certain thing , such as Sausages as denoted by the 'reserved descriptions', ie they must be made in a certain way or in a certain place etc. But that says nothing about the brand name you can give it. So from what I can see as long as the full ingredients are listed on the packet for all to see then they are doing no wrong, they have inveneted a brand name and are not trying t omislead someone. I mean if they called them Champagne and Goose Sausages then you may expect to find Champagne and Goose i nthem , but I think we all know that dragons are not real ( apart from the ones that work on the counter at the council offices ) .

I think we should all email these Trading Stanrds people and lodge a complaint that Heinz Baby Food contains no babies and must be withdrawn !

'Hamburger' is allowed; it's a contraction of 'Hamburger steak' and is named after the town...Hamburgers are not, and never have been, made from ham.
Which is why it sets my teeth on edge to see them described and sold as 'beefburgers'...

I laughed at the guy in question, when he said 'we also make farmhouse sausages, but you dont expect to see farmhouses in them'.

Crazy story!

TS told the company to includes a more information on their labeling to better describe the content of he sausage. They made the recommendation that the name be slightly changed to include the type of meat.

The idea that a government dept is testing for "dragon meat" is simply mischief making by (a hacked off at having to change their packaging) company.

You really have to stop being so gullible when it comes to reading news articles. The truth is in there, hidden away behind the entertainment.

Just heard a report on the radio.........apparently the company has been asked to put the word 'Pork' more prominantly on the pack to make it clear what the sausages are made off...........I think this is perfectly reasonable..........when I buy meat products I like to know what kind of meat it is.............
