Unusual names for children

If you've had children (or intend to), do you think it's better to stick with safe, popular names or to stand out from the crowd at the expense of potential ridicule?

Unusual names seem to be getting more and more common (I've heard of Zephaniah recently). My mother was telling me that her neighbours have just had a baby, which they've decided to name after my parent's cat, Harry It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a girl!

Harry's cute for a girl, shortened from Harriet like Harriet The Spy!
I like unusual names, but I don't like ridiculous made up names - giving your kid something exotic can be nice, but calling it Chardonnay is basically cruel!

Well I'm one of those people who loves to stand out, be unique etc. I like exotic and unusual names, but I do have some idea of what gets made fun of and such. It may be a weeeee bit chavvy but I like altering the letters of names, or spelling them like they are in other countries e.g Natascha.

I think it's really silly. An unusual name is fine, but there's unusual and there's really flipping stupid, and I've seen far too many of the latter.

There's a site called "Baby's named a bad, bad thing" that I love, and it collects bad baby names. I'll try and find the link.

I like traditional names, for both boys and girls.

I can't stand all these made-up names that people come out with nowadays, like Destiny Angel and Paris Heavenly Crazy!

I'm not going to be calling my first born something boring like Jake or Chloe. I quite like the Swedish name Amalia.

My stepson is called Morgan. It really suits him and I think its a fantastic name.

I have chosen Ellie for a daughter.

I like Traditional names.. The only thing a weird name says about you is that your parents were either egotistical or dyslexic

I hated my name as a kid as it's not very common, but I love it now. i think you grow into it but there are limits such as dweezle, fifi trixabelle etc. That's just ludicrous.

I like some unusual names like Cheyenne (pronounced Shy-ann) but some people like Paula Yates go too far, I mean, Fifi Trixibell and Heavenly Haruna Tiger Lily I wonder what they think of those names now, and whether they were teased at school about them?

I like 'Heavenly Haruna Tiger Lily' myself

If there ever was such a stupid name this would be the one!

I have alway wondered why celebrities name their kids with such rediculous names!?

Apple
Rumour
Peaches
Cruz
Romeo
Fifi Trixibell
Heavenly Haruna Tiger Lily... Any more?

Isn't one of Jacko's kids called Blanket?

My favourite names are Claire and Liam. Short and simple.
Kids can be cruel enough at school without the parents giving them a dodgy name to be picked on.
