Child Snatching Emmerdale

Can someone please tell me WHY? Jean was allowed to walk through an airport departure lounge with a kidnapped child...

is this "British Law" as it stands?? Once you've gone through checkin, you are Home Dry?? Wave bye bye...

This must raise the issue of child snatching as a whole.. and Cops saying.. "sorry luv, we can't do nuffing"

C'Mon???

Technically, Gurn didn't kidnap TJ ... but I get where you are coming from hun.

I just LOVE the script writers on Emmerdale.

Abducted I think it the correct word, but nevertheless, she took him without his legal guardian's permission. If nothing else, the Police would have stopped Jean and questioned what was happening after Terry told them. But he should have gone to the Police straight away and not gone through all the palaver he did.

In all fairness, Terry gave TJ to Gurn. Okay, he didn't know she was taking him to Morocco ... and yes, he should have gone straight to the police, but we're talking Terry Woods here - not exactly the tallest tree in the woods. (Sorry, really bad pun!)

But surely one of the broadest?

However, alarm bells should have gone off with some of the things she was saying to Terry in the B&B.

I must admit I found this storyline completely unrealistic. Do the scriptwriters actually believe that the police have no juridiction over a woman standing 6 feet away who is taking a child out of the country without its parents' permission?

I wonder if they would have been so incapable of acting if Terry had said she had a load of drugs down her drawers?

Doesn't Terry leave after Tom's murder? I'm presuming he brings him back.

Yes, it was a joke - of course the police would have immediately stopped her and there'sno way that he would have been allowed to leave the country.

Still, soap and reality never did go together in Emmerdale!

I remember the other week seeing a picture of a scene in a TV mag - the way they pose for them - showing Jean walking away with TJ and the cops holding back Terry and I remember then being puzzled as to why the police were stopping him and allowing Jean to leave the country, because isn't Terry the one with legal rights over TJ, not Jean!

Then I realised how silly I was for wondering it, cos this is the soap police, after all, and they're always being portrayed as being as being as thick as two short planks. I'm amazed Sam hasn't joined the police. He'd rise the ranks in no time, cos they're all on his level!

The child actor who plays TJ now is kind of odd looking and soaps tend to get rid of kids when they start to grow up and not look like they want them to. Exactly like Victoria.

As long as it isn't Rooney, we will be ok.

Irrespective of the legal position re. Jean abducting TJ, it made for a great half hour of TV last night.

That's exactly what I thought! No one notices in soaps when someone gets a new head, so no one will realise he's aged 10 years, specially as his 21 year old mum is dead. but his knocking 50 year old Dad lives on so it wouldn't look out of place!

Has Stephen Beale returned to EE yet? I remember it as said he was about 12 when he left and he was gonna come back about 16 or 17, after being gone about a year, and of course no one would notice!
