The CBB5 Ratings Thread

I know there's a BB ratings thread too for general talk, but I know some people preferred it seperate. Also, I wanted to post all the previous ratings statistics on the first page of the thread so we can refer back to them if we need to (and we always do at some point or another)! So, here we go -

I think the average was 4.4 for BB7 but not 100% sure.

Yep! I doubt we'll ever see a final that big again though.

Exactly, Remember even though it was only 7 years ago channelss and viewers were a lot different. Not that many people had SKY or digital services.

I suppose it could happen. BB7 seems to be seen by most people as one of the worst series, but the final still managed to peak at 8.2 million.

For a final now to reach 10 million though, they would have to get every single housemate spot on. A few of them would have to have controversial jobs etc too. They'd also have to move BBLB back to Channel 4, because even though it's gone downhill, I believe it still helps to draw fans in. For a final to reach 10 million, then they'd have to get every single detail right. If it wasn't for the stupid games ITV were playing last summer with its ratings war against Channel 4, then I think more people would have seen BB7 and I think the final could have got quite close to 10 million. BB7 is very underrated in my opinion.

I've just been looking to see what competition CBB5 faces. I think it is up against tougher competition than BB7 had! CBB5 is going to find it very difficult this year. It's very unlikely that both Just The Two Of Us and Soapstar Superstar will prove to be unpopular.

Thursday 4th January
- Just The Two Of Us

Friday 5th January
- Just The Two Of Us
- Soapstar Superstar

Saturday 6th January
- Just The Two Of Us
- Soapstar Superstar (starts 20 minutes later than CBB though).

Sunday 7th January
- Just The Two Of Us

Monday 8th January
- Waking The Dead
- Soapstar Superstar

Tuesday 9th January
- Soapstar Superstar

Wednesday 10th January
- Soapstar Superstar

Thursday 11th January
- Soapstar Superstar

Friday 12th January
- Coronation Street (followed by Soapstar Superstar)!

The final of BB1 peaking at 10 million is wrong. It is very notable, a very well known, that the final of Big Brother 3 peaked at 10 million, which is most viewers for any Channel 4 show, excluding films.
As for BB7's average, it can't be 4.4 million. I definitely know that BB6 was the worst series in terms of ratings, with 4.4 million as its average. But I thought that BB7 had more than that, maybe 4.7 million:

1. BB3 - 5.8 million
2. BB5 - 5.0 million
3. BB7 - 4.7 million
3. BB1 - 4.7 million
5. BB2 - 4.6 million
5. BB4 - 4.6 million
7. BB6 - 4.4 million

As a target, I hope that BB8's average viewing figures will reach between 6.0 million - 6.5 million. If it goes any further then I will be pleased!
One thing that is also on my mind is that BB4 was slated for being such a rubbish show, being at 4.6 million, with O2 leaving BB just because it wasn't "fresh" enough, when they had only sponsored BB for 2 years (3 years if you count BT Cellnet), yet BB2 got the exact same average viewing figures as BB4.

BB1 did peak at 10 million. BB3 did not peak at 10 million even in officials. BB7's average is 4.4 million. All of the above figures are overnights. BB7 official average might have got over 4.4 in officials, but all the figures above are overnights.

It's literally impossible for BB to ever average anything like that. As someone else pointed out, there are so many more channels now and so much more choice. More and more people are subscribing to Sky and other digital tv platforms, and downloading tv shows is also slowly starting to take off. To get a series of BB to average anywhere near 6 million now, they would have to fine tune every single detail of the show, and manipulate things like never before. It just won't happen.

But you have just contradicted yourself though:

"It's literally impossible for BB to ever average anything like that".
"To get a series of BB to average anywhere near 6 million now, they would have to fine tune every single detail of the show..."

So in one sentence you claim that it is "literally" impossible for Big Brother to ever get an average of or anywhere near 6 million, yet you say in another sentence that BB could get an average of 6 million by.... So Endemol has the power to manipulate and control the show so why can't they just do that? Endemol has lots of money from lots of programmes worldwide, they control almost everything on that certain show, so Brighter Pictures could do the same!
Also, when you gave us the averages of each Big Brother Series, you put 5.8 million for BB3, which is what I said. But you have contradicted yourself again, by saying that it is literally impossible for BB to get anywhere near 6 million.
I don't think it is impossible, providing what you have said, with the producers fine tuning the programme with every detail.

I think the series average debate may come down to some people using overnights, and others using officials. The average ratings posted for BB1-BB6 and the CBB series are, I think, official ratings. In official ratings, BB7 managed 4.7 million. I think 4.4 million is the overnight average.

I think we could see an interesting battle between Just the Two of Us, Soapstar Superstar and CBB. I think any of them could win the timeslot, but none of them will get the same ratings as last time.

Good to have a ratings thread for the series, and that info (particularly the averages) will come in useful, no doubt, as the series goes on.

Yes he said "now" as in in the furture.

It would be hard for BB to get an average of 6 mill they only wsay i can see that happening is moving it to the BBC and having it on for only 3 weeks. Like IAC.

Whether Master Ozzy contradicted himself or not, he is right to say that BB will never get near 6 million again. Viewing of terrestrial television channels has changed dramatically even since BB3. Back then, nobody would have said that Eastenders would be struggling to hit 10 million. Hard to predict CBB5 ratings without knowing the HM's and hearing of any plans for the show, but with the competition on BBC and ITV, I will be pleased if CBB5 can beat the CBB3 average.

How have I contradicted myself? I said that it's impossible for a series of BB to ever average 6 million because there are so many other channels available. I said they might be able to do it if they pulled out all of the stops (even then it's unlikely they could get a series to average 6 million), but in my opinion it's impossible because C4/Endemol won't pull out all the stops. Every housemate would need to be perfect and contraversial, there would have to be absoloutely loads of media coverage, the show would have to have no ratings conmpetition etc. It doesn't take a genius to work out that all of that will never happen. Maybe I didn't explain myself very clearly, but I certainly didn't contradict myself .

This is about you not reading things properley. I said: "To get a series of BB to average anywhere near 6 million now, they would have to fine tune every single detail...". They key word in that sentence is the one in bold!!

BB3 got an average of 5.8 million, but that was way back in 2002, and we are now entering 2007. Tv has changed in an absoloutely massive way since 2002. Sky and many other digital television platforms are taking over and offering viewers hundreds of channels, people are downloading tv programs etc. Television has changed so much that it is literally impossible for a series of BB NOW to acheive an overall ratings average of 6 million.

To get a series of BB to average anywhere near 6 million now, they would have to fine tune every single detail of the show, and manipulate things like never before. It just won't happen.
Not impossible, Just unlikely

Stop getting so angry . OK he may of got a number wrong or not but no need to write a essay just to say someone may have made a mistake.

Right just recoved a spreadsheet on my computer where I was keeping the ratings over the series. From what I remember they were all over nights and the average I get is 4.65. But not sure wether to trust this number because some of my data is different to what ozzy wrote.
e.g
I got 5.15 million for the show on 09/08/2006. While Ozzys figures read 4.8.

Mine are overnights. I just searched for the BB7 ratings thread that we used last year and found some posts made by people on the 10/08/06 saying that the ratings for "last night" (09/08/06) were 4.8 millon.

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...ratings+thread - Scroll down the page and you'll see loads of posts.

You got 5.15 million which is quite a difference to my figure. I have the overnights, so you must have the officials. Explains why you got an average of 4.65 too. That must be the official average.
