emomoney, why not try offering helpful replies rather than just these pointless ones? I doubt you'll fit into Digital SPy with that attitude
As for the question, i have the philips 28" flatscreen model, and i am decreasingly happy with it. The geometry is off (and unfixable), and has some ghosting problems when you have a few scarts hooked up, plus only 2 scarts, and the zoom modes make the picture noticeably more 'liney' than other TVs. I could go on... I learnt my lesson, stick with sony

I personally would not recommend a Philips widescreen TV, for pretty much the same reasons as Craig_E.
Top that off with Philips having probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced (again, in my experience). Just my 2p

I would have to disagree with the two posts above. I can't remember the model off the top of my head but I bought a Philips 32" 100Hz Widescreen last year and it's the best TV I've ever owned (and I've been through a few after renting them for years) The picture quality is top notch and it has 3 Scarts of which 2 are RGB which I think is pretty good compared to most others.
I know it's difficult without me being able to say what model I have but I seriously recommend it. I haven't had to deal with Customer Services though so maybe that would make a difference. Leigh |

I guess everyone has their own opinion.
Philips seem to have goods reviews elsewhere and I have just placed an order for the 32PW8717C which is the 100Mz tv. Leigh - can you find out what model number seeing you recommend the tv: I would be grateful Marc |

I bought a Philips 36" widescreen a couple of years back and it's been nothing short of superb. The picture is razor sharp and the sound is stunning, especially on music. I've been a bit wary of Philips stuff over the years but this has restored my faith in them as far as TVs go. I guess all manufacturers can make duds.
The TV I got is identical to a Panasonic model. And when you bea rin mind they're the same company as Technics I think quality is pretty much assured. Personally I don't rate Philips for hifi and would persuade anyone to go for Sony instead. |

marc225, I'm getting the 28" 6506 and 730 vcr delivered this week. My previous philips 28" gave up the ghost after 3 years (the tube failed). I looked long and hard for a new one, but it always came back to Philips for me. However, the 5 year guarantee and free vcr swung it slightly.
I'll let you know what I think in a day or so.........I can't wait Mark |

Philips have had big problems with early tube failures over the last few years (like Mark's). You may want to see if Philips are doing anything to reassure customers of current sets that these are OK (like a free 5 year tube guarantee).

I contacted Philips Customer Service about this, they offered me £150 toward a new tube. Weighted it up and decided I wanted a new set!! :-)

Until very recently I would only buy philips (when I find a brand I like I tend to be loyal to it). WHAT A JERK I WAS.
+ points.... Stylish Competatively priced Plenty of features 5 yr guarantee (most places will offer this on Philips) - points Crap, and I mean really crap build quality (ie scratches really easily, remote control already replaced once and ready for another as silver is all worn away and hinges cracked) Very poor support Even crapper customer service As mentioned above, picture geometry is poor and access to engineer modes is a def. no-no for the average owner. Needless to say, my money will not be going to Philips any more. |

I was looking at the PHILIPS 32PW6006C Ctv 76cm 16:9 Nicam With Cabinet £549.98 as I read some great reviews for it, and the price is great. my old 28" was a cheap philps, £350 and it does have a few small geometry issues, but as price was my main objective I have learned to live with it

I'm pretty happy with it for the price. Picture is excellent. Sometimes it is slightly slow changing from Widescreen back to your choice of 'stretch vision'. The Super-Wide mode works better than most sets I've seen, and gives a nice full screen for 4:3 broadcasts. The sound however is pretty poor, so unless you have some Home Cinema syle sound equipment to hook it up to I would steer clear for that reason. I never use the built in speakers for films or music. No depth or bass to the sound. I'd say go for it if you want a 32" around £500, but be wary of the sound. |

I have used Philips' (with one l) products for years.
Their products - almost without exception - are technically very competent and their innovation is outstanding. The only trouble is that they are an absolute pig to install - especially VCRs - as they are designed to defy all logic or human thought. The Philips' design team don't think the same way as the rest of us do and live on another planet. So that's why you need a Bic pen to set up some of their VCRs - very odd indeed... It's a shame really - if someone would just tell the boffins to get real, their stuff could be really good! |

I would always choose Philips over other manufactures (as above, when I find a make which works I stick with it until they make a mistake).
My TV is a 32PF9664 My Stereo is a 15 Year old Philips My Bedroom Stereo is a 17 Year old Philips My Iron is a Philips ![]() My Kettle is Philips ![]() Philips seem to me to be a brand that if it originally works, it will work for a long time (touch wood !), for example I picked up a DVDR70 which was junk, I took it back and will try a different model later. |
