Anyone had a delivery from Carphone Warehouse and/or City-Link delivery services?

I've ordered a new phone from Carphone Warehouse on Tuesday, and was told it would arrive between 9am and 5.30pm the next working day (Wednesday) but this didn't happen.

I rang City Link and they told me it had only been despatched today (Yesterday, Wednesday) and that it would arrive tomorrow (which of course is now today). The thing is, the status of the item has not updated since 10.15am yesterday.

It says:
Wed 3rd, 05:15am: Arrived at Delivery Branch
Wed 3rd, 10:15am: On route to delivery branch
(how can it be on route after it's already arrived?)

And the status says:
These goods have successfully arrived at the branch ready for delivery.
It also says Scheduled Delivery Date: 03/01/07.

It's been like that since yesterday. Anyone had any experiences with delivery from City Link?

In our field City Link is referred to as Sh*tty Link. Why did they say it was dispatched yesterday? Maybe it`ll arrive today.

It is probably out on the road to be delivered today. I've had online trackers that are fairly inaccurate - like ebuyer once telling me that an order hadnt been dispatched from the warehouse, yet when walking down to reception (i get everything delivered to work) - there it was!

City Link are a nightmare!

I was expecting a package to be delivered and I was out. On the delivery slip it said the package was returned to the depot to await my delivery instructions. Because I was working away, I rand the following day to re-arrange delivery - only to be told it was being re-delivered that day!

As I pointed out to them, if that option had been ticked on the slip I've have called them the day before as I knew I wouldn't be home!

So I then arranged to have it delivered the next day. After 5:30 I called them to find out where the package was and they told me they had to get authorization from the company I'd ordered from, because they'd tried to deliver it twice and there was no answer - despite it being their error!!!

Luckily for them I was able to be at home the following day so the package was finally delivered.

I do think that any package deliveries to private addresses should be made using Royal Mail - they're by no means perfect, but at least it's easier to re-arrange delivery or they'll leave the package at a local post office!

I ordered a pile of stuff online before Christmas, the company i bought it from said it might take up to 10 days.....wasn't in a rush so wasn't bothered.

So anyway i waited for 11 days and nothing, so i called them. They issued the goods again, and said they would rush it out next day. The next day came and went, waited another day and called them. Again they said sorry and reissued it.
The following day i got home from work and all three packages were sitting there, next to the front door....none had been signed for.
My neighbour came out and said he had been watching them and that the guy threw them from the van to the door.

So anyway i waited a few days and called them up again, i asked if they could confirm if they had tried to delivery and maybe had them at a warehouse where i could pick them up from. The girl said that the system still had all three out for delivery.
She refunded all my money, over £300.

Last week i got a letter, saying that they had being trying to contact me and asked if i could call them. Well they had my mobile (no missed calls) and my email address.
So anyway i knew they closed at 7pm, so i called them at 6:58, knowing that the person i speak with will just want to get out the door.
The girl asked if anything had been delivered, i said not to me personally and none have my neighbours have taken anything in for me.
The girl asked if anything had been left outside, i said nothing was there when i came home from work.

Then she said that the courier company have delivered all three items and all the signatures matched, i asked if she could read the signatures out as they have them.

She read out my full name, so i checked to make sure she was reading the signature...and she said yes.
I then told her i would like a copy sent to me in the post, so i'm current waiting for it.

My signature is my last name then followed by my first initial, i'll photo copy my driving licence next month.

And yes it was City Link that was the courier.

That's pretty common practise for companies like City Link. The contracts and rates with their customers (i.e. the people we order from) usually include a fixed amount of free re-deliveries (usually 1). Anything after that they charge the company extra for. Hence the reason they drop off cards after being told noone will be there, don't drop cards but say they have, etc.

Carphone Warehouse are now waiting for City Link to confirm the goods are lost, and if they are I will be sent a replacement. Whether I get a replacement or refund, I intend to write a strongly worded letter of complaint to my local delivery branch of City Link and forward the same letter to their head office.

Supposing this was a birthday present for someone. It's comepletely unacceptable.

I ordered some presents on line, City Link delivered them. one we found in the wheely bin, after we went out to put the bin out for the bin men, good job we had some rubbish to put in the bin. The second one was thrown over the side gate it was pouring with rain so the box was soaked. Another one was left outside the front door, with the wheelie bin pushed in front of it, blocking the door.
I didnt bother phoning City Link i phoned the company i had ordered my items from, they said they had, had a lot of complaints about deliveries, and have now stopped using City Link.

I ordered a pool table from halfords online before Xmas. It arrived in a city link van but the guy was on his own and decided to slide it straight out of the back of his van onto the path. It smashed down onto the concrete breaking the pocket and corner. The cheeky git wanted me to sign for it anyway and leave it with me to sort out. I made him put it back on his van and told him to get lost and refused delivery.

Grr they put my brand new mobile phone over the garden fence, and didn't notify us it had been delivered.

Noticed 3 DAYS later.

Grr.

I've already posted my City Link experiences on a previous thread. Similar to the above ones.

The bigger problem is that loads of people now buy on line or use Ebay etc and there are loads more parcels about.

Lots of people work and are not in, and can't or don't want stuff left with neighbours. Many are unable to have stuff delivered to their workplace. On top of that for many of us the couriers depot is too far away to collect from.

Most couriers don't deliver on a Saturday. We do need a rethink and look at weekend or evening deliveries. Or another idea would be for local businesses to be designated collection points perhaps a local shop or pub etc. (Pub may be better as it would be open in the evenings). I didn't say Post office as many of us don't have one!

Couriers have been traditionally set up to deliver to businesses during office hours. They haven't moved with the times.

In cases like mine where someone completely made up a story about trying to deliver to us when they didn't, I believe harder action needs to be taken as at the moment it doesn't really seem to matter or hurt them. It can't be right as happened in one case to me where I paid a premium delivery charge on top of the standard one for a specific day delivery for the courier to decide on that day they wouldn't bother doing a delivery run as it wasn't worth it. Its not their decision to make.

I'm sure on one thread someone said some firms give their drivers digital cameras and they have to take a picture of each house of a failed delivery to prove they actually have been there and tried to deliver.
