Star Wars Movie Hidden In Windows

This is so cool! Microsoft hid a version of Star Wars done entirely with ASCII in the Windows XP operating system. You can try this yourself by going to

Start / Run and type: telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl

Check it out!

If it does not work for you then you can watch it here to show you waht happens

That is pretty damn cool.

However it isnt stored within XP.

It must download it from somewhere as my keyboard has a display on it which shows loads of info and it was showing it as downloading this. When i quit the application it stopped downloading.

As others have said about it not be part of windows.

While telnet can be regarded as harmless, people should not paste "commands" into the start->"Run..." dialog box unless they know what they are do.

A similar, more impressive feat last year was somebody broadcasting the World Cup live in ASCII:

There's a flying game hidden in early copies of Excel too. Definitely in Excel 97.

If ASCII art movies float your boat, MPlayer will play any movie in ASCII (as well as playing them properly).

The answer, of course, is "because they can".

Hi,

Here is how to get Pinball for Word 97:

1. Open a new document in Word.
2. Type the word Blue (with a capital B).
3. Select the word Blue, by either double clicking on it or using the mouse.
4. Go to Format>Font.
5. Select Font Style:Bold and Color:Blue > Click OK.
6. Hit End to bring the cursor to the end of the word.
7. Type one space then type a single quotation mark (this can be found under
Insert>Symbol>Normal Text> Top row beside the & symbol.
8. Type another space and then one last quotation mark.
9. Go to Help>About Microsoft Word.
10. Left click the mouse once on the Word Icon (in blue on the left hand
side).
11. You should get a black screen for a few seconds and then the pinball game
will appear on the left hand side of the screen. On the right side of the
screen you will see a scrolling list of the development team.
12. Use Z for the left flipper and M for the right one.

And for the Excel Flight Simulator Game:

1: Open a new Worksheet and Press F5.
2: Type "X97:L97" and press Enter.
3: Press the Tab key, Hold down Ctrl & Shift and left click the Chart Wizard toolbar icon.
4: Use the mouse to move around - Left button reverse thrust, Right button forward thrust.
5: Look around carefully to find the Shrine with the programmers messages and the Blue Lagoon !

It is not true.
(well in a way it is, but not in the connecting and looking at /doing stuff way)

Your hubby is right to tell anyone off for typing in commands without knowing what they do.
