They can because (S)Of(T)com stupidly let ITV aggregate the number of hours ok kids tv it shows accross the year than specifically per week.

That means at in the run up to Christmas or other major toy selling times they'll saturate the schedule and then axe it altogther at other times of the year.

Why not watch the CITV channel

In a few years time you will have to watch digital, or have no tv, so why not do it now

Seeing as there is CBBC, Cbeebies & CITV broadcasting, I dont understand why people complain about childrens tv not being on BBC1 & ITV1

That would be a good argument if it was happening now, but it isn't.

Whilst digital switchover is vastly approaching it hasn't happened yet, and until it does I think the terrestrial channels need to cater for childrens programming accordingly.

That is true, but why not be pro-active and think that "analogue is going soon, I should be getting digital sooner rather than later"

It even gives you so much more choice, you are not just limited to the few hours that BBC/ITV show after school time, and whatever is on weekends

Might be just my thinking, but if people want to watch a fair amount of childrens tv, surely going digital is better than complaining about the loss of it on analogue

Not that I am saying it should be scrapped on analogue, just that digital provides so much more and is the future

Surely it comes down to individual circumstances. Some people can't afford to go digital yet.

I also blame BSkyB somewhat for the slow transition to digital. They're not pushing Freesat as much as they could be, and for that very reason when people are told they can't receive Freeview in their area many of them assume there is no other way of receiving digital TV for free.

The lack of CITV on ITV not only gets ITV out of showing kids' programmes, but also making/commissioning them. They don't have to do so (and won't) on their digital channel since it is tucked away.

They have remove it to get people to get digital and on Freeview they now have even more shows on digital and Top TV and instead of showing it does not switch off any more on Freeview in the middle like it did from 12-3pm at weekwend plus TMF and ABC1 got morning programns plus milkshke on 5 and five life so there loads of children programns and even more on sky and top up tv. Too much to chose pluss ITV2 share 6am-9.25 Citv as well so Digital is the futrue

From 1999-2006, whenever I came home from school, CITV would be on. During that time I attended three schools and have lived in three homes. The best programmes were ZZZap!, My Parents Are Aliens, Eliminator, Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Tales and Bernard's Watch. They've taken away my childhood and other children's childhood by taking away CITV from ITV1 which is where it all started er, 20 years ago

I remember Woof, The Sooty Show, Press Gang and T-Bag. Four of my favourites from CITV. Long gone days.

They could get Emmerdale and Corrie off the air on ITV1 too and put it on ITV2.

Yes, and it's not just the viewers that lose out, it's the actors as well, the reduction of home-grown programmes means there's less opportunity for them to develop their acting skills and reduces the number of parts too. I'm surprised the acting community haven't kicked up more of a fuss about it..
