Anyone believe that dreams means something?

Normally I think it's a big pile of poo, brought on by your subconscious and usually about stuff you've seen throughout the day.
However!
The last few years, I've been having dreams about going down VERY high staircases, usually at the top of tower blocks etc. You can usually see right the way down the staircase if you look over the banister. I normally see my family into the lift (which is what I do if I go into town, claustrophobic!) then head for the stairs. It's really difficult to start going down them cos I have vertigo.
Sometimes I fall, sometimes I make it down.
My reasoning is, if I can figure out why I keep having this, perhaps it'll stop!

Weird! I used top have a lot of dreams like that but about lifts. I would get in a lift and go to the top and there you could see all the way to the bottom i.e. there were no floors in the building, just the lift shaft, very scary and what it meant I have no idea.

I remember years ago when I was a kid, I used to have this nightmare which used to absolutely terrify me. It's too hard to explain wat it was about because it was'nt about people or places or anything like that. I used to get it about once every few months and the funny thing was that I always sort of knew before I went to sleep that I was going to have that nightmare on that night. I was always glad when I had had it because then at least I knew I would'nt be having it for a while afterwards.

Over the years I don't seem to have had it as much and it has all but disappeared. I think the last time I had it was about 10 years ago.

Usually these things are based on fears that you may have, e.g. mine and the OP's would be because of a fear of heights.

Dreams often mean 'something', sometimes serious, sometimes frivolous, as they're the sub-conscious's way of bringing issues to your attention. A recurring dream is almost certainly of that type. I've never gone into interpretation though, so couldn't tell you what the staircase means. I don't believe, however, that dreams predict the future.

I get recurring dreams about plane crashes. Often I'm watching a large jet-liner explode or crash into the ground. One or two occasions I'm on the plane myself. They're not very nice dreams! I did read somewhere dreams like this signified something to do with ambition fears.....

Mostly I think dreams are just your brain's way of clearing out the crap lol

I have those dreams all the time too, I have had them for about 15 years. When I dream I'm on the plane, everyone is saved, but if the plane crashes in front of me there is total carnage.

When I had tonsillitus (I was ever so woozy with it) I told my doctor about it while she was writing out my prescription. She recommended antidepressents

Bloomin' doctors. They prescribe anti-depressants far too much.

Eh??! Maybe she linked them to anxiety. Seems a bit mad to prescribe ADs for that though!

I had one of the crash dreams the other night.

Just looked it up on Dream Moods...

"Airplane Crash
To dream that a plane crashes, suggests that you have set overly high and unrealistic goals for yourself. Your goals may be too high and are impossible to realize. You are in danger of having it come crashing down. Alternatively, your lack of confidence, self-defeating attitude and self-doubt toward the goals you have set for yourself is represented by the crashing airplane; you do not believe in your ability to attain those goals. Loss of power and uncertainty in achieving your goals are also signified."

Maybe she read that link and decided I must need them

I did decline the prescription, I don't think a couple of weird dreams are a symptom of depression. I would never had told her about them had I not been so woozy with painkillers in the first place.

I keep dreaming about judy Dench at the moment. She told me off for leaving the door to the bathroom open last night

I would say the lift shaft dream, with no floors inbetween, suggests anxiety (on the dreamer's part) of having no security and direction in life and this is worrying them. I often have dreams about being back at VIth form college, with my mother making me return there. I guess this means subconsiously I feel I let myself and my mother down with my original grades (not bad, but not brilliant).
I also have dreams about me being taken away from my OH or him leaving me...
I used to have dreams about all my teeth falling out which apparently means a lack of power and control in your life.
It's quite easy to analyse dreams without the aid of a book. We did it at uni and after thinking about the example dream given to us it was quite surprising about how obvious symbols in dreams can be applied to the dreamer's life.

Gosh I have the exact same recurring dream. I always see a plane come crashing down during take-off. In one dream I was on a plane myself and looked out of the window behind me, where another aircraft was taking off, right into the path of our wing. Other times I see spooky, dark, unidentifiable aircraft in the sky, often war-planes.

Re: the definition of setting overly high goals for oneself or experiencing self-doubt- well, that's true of me I suppose but doesn't everyone suffer from a bit of self-doubt every once in a while. I don't believe my dreams mean diddly squat except that I'm a bit scared of a) flying and b) air attacks.

Sorry, don't agree with this at all. I do suffer from those anxieties but I haven't had those dreams for years and I didn't have the anxieties then. As far as I am concerned it is due to a fear of heights and lifts, something I have suffered from since I was a child.

I also have the dreams about teeth falling out but that is because I am worried about losing my teeth. Simple as.

Most dreams are usually quite abstract and have little reflection on real life, but I think sometimes they do indicate something that is happening in your subconscience.

TM, was there a point in time you remember them stopping? I see you have a fear of heights too, hence the fairly similar dreams. Did you do anything particular to stop them? Mine are annoying me and want them to stop!!

I don't feel the power to stop them. I get other, more problematic, dreams now that concern recent events in my life, and my hopes to put things right, except they cannot legally be put right. They are a reference to mistakes I have made and being unable to right the wrongs makes the dreams have a bad effect on me. If I could stop them I would, but I can't.
