Corrie ~ Monday January 15th
Monday 15 January 7.30 - 8pm ITV1
Claire (Julia Haworth) and Gail (Helen Worth) are being questioned by the police and it appears as though Tracy's (Kate Ford) months of plotting are paying off as the two women paint a damning picture of `violent' Charlie (Bill Ward). Over at the hospital, Maria (Samia Smith) joins Jason (Ryan Thomas) at Charlie's bedside, her emotions all over the place as she sees the man she once loved in such a critical state. As they discuss their shared scepticism of Tracy's version of events, an alarm goes off as Charlie flat lines. Is it over for Charlie Stubbs? Elsewhere, Sally (Sally Whittaker) and Kevin (Michael Le Vell) are shocked when Bill (Peter Armitage) arrives back on the street! How will Audrey (Sue Nicholls) feel about his return? Over at the Battersby household, a concerned Fiz (Jennie Mc Alpine) looks on as Les (Bruce Jones) falls apart without Cilla (Wendi Peters). While he works all the hours he can, poor Chesney (Sam Aston) is suffering. Will Fiz take matters into her own hands? Also, at the Rovers, Michelle (Kym Ryder) prepares for another date with Sonny (Pal Aron) and Steve brings Amy back with him when Tracy agrees she needs a break. This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by Joe Turner, produced by Steve Frost and directed by Alan Wareing. Coronation Street is made by ITV Productions. 07:30 Episode Monday 15 January 8.30 - 9pm ITV1 Maria (Samia Smith) and Jason (Ryan Thomas) are shocked to discover that the crash team were unable to revive Charlie (Bill Ward) and he's dead. The police break the news to Tracy (Kate Ford) who hides her joy and plays the grieving girlfriend. However, the police disrupt her performance when they explain that new evidence has put events in a different light and are taking her back in for questioning. What have the police found, will Tracy be caught out? Over at the Websters', Bill (peter Armitage) smoothes the way for a long stay as he reveals that his marriage to Maureen is over and he's back in Manchester for good. When he apologises to Audrey (Sue Nicholls) there's a sense she's not sorry to see him back! Will Audrey forgive Bill and give him another chance? Elsewhere, a furious Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) gives Les (Bruce Jones) a piece of her mind when Chesney (Sam Aston) is locked out of the house because he's lost his key and Les is asleep on the sofa! How long will Fiz let Les get away with neglecting Chesney like this? It will be dragged out as the funeral isn't until 26th Jan.
I wonder if Charlie manages any last words to Jason? Last edited by cole09mcfc : 15-01-2007 at 18:47. |

I think the actor who plays Jason is doing really well in these scenes. Seeing him so upset about his mate and crying for him in the hospital was quite touching.

Yes to the above. Does anyone else think what a good storyline it would have been if Charlie had survived and realised what good friends Jason and Maria had been ?

What was the point of making Charlie live on a little extra if he was going to do nothing anyway?

First Episode
A reasonable start. Of course, KF cannot do dramatic acting to save her life so the impact of this storyline is somewhat diminished. The scene in which she pretended to cry when Steve visited her at number 1 was woefully inadequate & chronic to watch.
She did, however have a brilliant line tonight with her comment:- "we've already established you're useless, now can you get someone who can help me?" How many of us wish we've said those words to some useless lump on the other end of the telephone? It's a pity that they've turned Claire into such a dimwit for the purposes of this storyline but her joy at seeing the police officers & her eagerness to tell them everything that she knows was quite amusing. Her scene with Deirdre was also good, particularly when Deirdre realised how little she knows about what has been going on in "Charlie's House". Gail was also on form tonight as she gave her views on the relationship & illustrated Charlie's character by telling the police about his treatment of Keith. Odd that neither her nor Claire told the police about Shelley, but I suppose that would "weaken" the storyline (if it wasn't already weak enough!) as she'd tell them that Charlie's weapon of choice was mental cruelty rather than physical violence towards women. Amber was reasonably amusing with her quips about Tracy being Dev's ex as well Blanche with her offer to go to the hospital to so she could keep everyone updated on Charlie's "progress". Connor & Battersby-Brown stuff was pure filler. 7 out of 10. |

Really enjoyed the first episode. Nice that the police officers got a "personality". Also, loved Claire's telling the coppers of every single detail.
God the Street like gossip. Norris was in his element when the police came by. Amber was excited at the prospect of being interviewed. The Webster's having the same conversation twice between the two ages. Blanche watching from the front window and Deirdre knowing the police's every move. Wonderful touches. All in all a great episode.

When Bill Webster's car pulled up, for some reason I half expected Archie Shuttleworth to step out. "Did I smell someone DYING?"
