Improving Radio Streams on BT Broadband

Hi All,

I have been a premium member of www.di.fm for ages and ever since getting BT Broadband at home the streams will not play properly. It constantly buffers out. Below are 5 minute test streams as if you were a premium member.

192k MP3 test stream - http://160.79.128.35:7010/listen.pls
128k AAC test stream - http://160.79.128.35:7012/listen.pls

64k AAC PLUS test stream - http://160.79.128.35:7016/listen.pls
32k AAC PLUS test stream - http://160.79.128.35:7018/listen.pls

128k Windows Media test stream - http://www.di.fm/wma/premium_test128k.asx
64k Windows Media test stream - http://www.di.fm/wma/premium_test64k.asx

I have sent them an email and the have run tests (they say) from their servers to my home PC and said there should be no problem.

I have tried bith WinAmp and WMP to no avail. I have in WMP altered the buffer to 30 seconds which a slight improvment but its still poor.

Is there any settings I can tweak to improve this? Maybe port forwarding or something.

If so, a dummies guide would be good

Thanks

D

This is what I got the other day (posted in another thread)

speedtester.bt.com says results are:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3250 kbps

The issue here is that I get no wher these results using other test sites...

That's strange - I can't see why there would be any difference really. How do you connect to your HomeHub? If it's by Wireless, try connecting by Ethernet instead and run a few different speed tests (speedtester, bbmax.co.uk etc) and see if the speeds are similar then. Even so - 3000kbps is plenty to run even a 192k radio stream, let alone 32k stream.
Are you sure theres no spikes on your line? Try starting a download - does the speed stay consistent or does it jump around? If so, this could either be a line problem, or may be due to electrical interference in your home.

Tried the 192k MP3 and the Windows Media 128k test streams using wirless connection to BTHomehub at a through put rate of just over 4000kbps and both played OK.
No buffer breaks etc.

Can't say much about the actual test stream
music - not to my taste

And how about speedtester.bt.com? Is that still saying around 3000kbps?
