Another Indian Viewpoint and the first 'Economic' one

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...ow/1324830.cms

I think Shilpa has been herself and this writer has seen too many Indian soaps.

you mean someones noticed that people use there knowledge of 'stories'
ie folktails, soaps, shakespeare, bollywood movies etc
to find themselves a role in a new situation?

i thought that was pretty basic eng lit/media studies stuff myself

and yeah i agree,i think she's just been herself. although she has got the experience of dealing with all sorts of "characters" thru her films i suppose, which the other girls won't have had. One can learn a lot through acting and drama, I've played minor roles on stage and had to get 'into' the character, so for example Shilpa's role playing an AIDS sufferer would have taught her a lot about compassion, how people suffer etc.

No BSpace you missed the point. Not their 'knowledge' of films,tv etc. but the empathy and appreciation for how different kinds of people think and behave that you get from having to play different roles, get into character, interact with other characters/personalities when you're an actor would have helped Shilpa a lot in dealing with the bullies, that's what the author is saying

Interesting article, thanks for linking to it. He doesn't like Shilpa much does he? I think there are a couple of basic misunderstandings here, for instance there is a vast and until now largely silent majority in this country who despise the fake celebrity culture we have now. I also feel he is diminishing what would seem to me to be Shilpa's genuine sorrow at being attacked by the Goody gang. Nobody, whatever they have experienced before, however many Bollywood films they have acted in is going to enjoy being ranted at by some loud-mouthed person for no real reason, let alone laughed at by her cronies.
For me considerations of 'political correctness' do not come into it. My basic belief is simple; do as you would be done by. Treat people with politeness and respect until (if) they prove themselves to be undeserving.
Sorry, a bit garbled, should have been asleep hours ago

It's an interesting article, but obviously laced with stereotypical Bollywood references for the Indian audience who haven't seen a British BB to appreciate how the writer feels characters have been selected.

We all know the show is shite, cynically edited and blatantly biased - but we can care about people involved and their treatment (like Ash last year), which is the only thing that makes it last.

"....from what I can make out, these shows are supposed to celebrate stupidity and crassness and traditionally the nasties win."

Not always, and not by a long chalk when it comes to the nastiest.

I think Shilpa will be in the last 3 but by then she'll have to start showing real character and charm to beat Dirk and I think she's too knackered to do so.

is'nt that called knowledge?
i thought knowledge was learning from experience and information
must be some other sort of knowledge that non actors dont know about then

or perhaps you've missed the point that i'm perfectly aware
of what you talk about
but did'nt think it was such a huge revelation that someone else did too

Maybe it's just a matter of semantic ambiguity, but your point was about using knowledge to find a role in a situation, as opposed to knowing about a role one finds oneself in.

And it's time we stopped being silent. The blame for this entire debacle lies not with Jade but with the millions of people (many of whom post on this forum) who buy the z-list celeb magazines week after week and encourage brainless nobodies to believe they are somebody. Perhaps now this country will wake up and realise that it's all been a con-trick: the people that fill the pages of Heat and Closer week after week are, in the main, worthless, talentless pieces of shit.
