Corrie: Time up for Les?

Toyah's gone, Janice & Leanne are almost entirely separate and now Cilla's off...Is it time to give Les the old heave-ho?

Let me this this straight before I carry on, I like Les. I always have done, but has the character now, as the old saying goes, 'run out of steam'?

I think so. In recent years he's moved out his old family and acquired a new one, albeit a slightly irritating one, but it seems the second family are now starting to dissolve.

Relationships are now strained between he and Chesney & the marriage has all but failed thanks to that scummy tart Yana. I can't say I want things to change either, I'm not at all rooting for a family reunion, which is what Steve Frost's most probably aiming for.

Les was a dying character 4 years ago until the Browns came along, do we really need another revival after Cilla's departure?
Ten years on the Street is a long time and they should be proud of that, but I think eleven would be one too many.

So why not finally move Les out of number 5? Let's have a brand new fresh family to succeed the Battersby's.

Anyone agree?

Les was a character i lost interest in a long time ago-its time to call it a day.
How many times can he get a new family into that disgusting house...

lets call kim and aggie and wave goodbye to les and his taxi forever...

Yes please - get rid!!

Time to get rid of manky old Les once and for all. That rubbish with Status Quo at his wedding to Cilla really was the last straw!

I agree but just can't understand why anyone would like him

He added a bit of variety to the Street, it was good when the family first came along to have someone to stir things up. But he's become stale, insulting the same old people- Norris, Gail- and generally not progressing much. His realationship with Ches made for good viewing when the kid first came into it but now the family's breaking up I don't see much of a future for him. Chesney and Kirk have both got Fiz and since Cilla's leaving I can't see what they'll do with him next. I mean, in all honesty, would he get someone else??

I think Les should be axed. And I think the producers should play a racism story as his exit storyline.

Soaps have shyed away from racism stories in recent years, and the BB furore proves that it is an issue which is still shockingly prevalent in our society.

Les is just the type of ignoramus who would be racist, there's simply no doubt about it. I think a story about racism would be far more compelling than yet another soapy affair, murder or the like.

The Todd gay storyline was Corrie's last "real" storyline, and the emotions and drama played within were superb. It made the show feel intelligent and relevant, whilst still remaining entertaining. They have a chance now to do something equally as strong here.

The big stumbling block would be the qualitity of the acting

Les will be comforted by Yana and will remain in the street.

Wendi Peters leaving may well prove the end of the road for Les. Steve Frost (producer) has already said that the Battersby-Browns are one of his least favourite families & that he never knows what to do with them.

Wendi's departure could pan out a number of ways I suppose. They may decide to get rid of Les (& potentially Kirk) at the same time & have Chesney move in with Fiz.

They could keep Les, Chesney & Kirk at number 5 and perhaps move Yana in as Les's "new woman".

Or they may decide to reunite Les & Janice & try & get the family back to what it was when they first came into the show.

I think it all hinges on Steve Frost's opinion about the family as a whole & whether the family will work if they change the female dynamic. The other consideration is whether they can justify keeping Chesney once Cilla (& potentially Les & Kirk) have gone.

Yeh I think Les has had his day. He's had a good run of ten years, after Cilla goes, I think he should leave too. Unless they pair him up with Yana.

No he wont go, he will end up with Janice again & again or Yana. They have lost too many "stars" as it is.

Corrie is ok but it's been a disaster for months. There is no way Tracey would have killed Charlie, it was crazy. There are too many episodes and the quality has really suffered. There are good actors but they dont seem to know what to do with them.

Dislikeable as Les is, I don't think there's any point in replacing him. He's good at what he does, and everywhere needs a Les to help them appreciate everyone else. There are a lot of Les's around (I know one, and he's even called Les, though he has actually less charisma than the one on the street believe it or not!).

If Les goes, they'll have to repace him with someone equally obnoxious.

Mind you, the paedophile issue hasn't really been effectively raised in any of the mainstream soaps. Is this because it's just to difficult to deal with?

Edit: Yes, actually Sarah had that internet encounter didn't she? But how about a real live paedophile being discovered living on the street? That would be a new storyline, for sure, wouldn't it?

Considering Wendi Peters' upcoming departure and Steve Frost's dislike of the Battersby-Browns, I think Les might be axed soon. I'd be happy to see him go; he doesn't add anything and he's not a great actor. Without Cilla around, there will be even less reason for him to exist.

Not bothered about Les, but would love to see Yana as a regular, she is a very classy lady!

The other thing of course is that the new family that are coming in soon are meant to be even worse than the Battersby's were when they were introduced. If this proves to be the case then perhaps Les's "niche" as loud-mouth bigot will be somewhat redundant as the newbies will be even worse than he is.

I remember reading an article where the producers of Coronation Street said he had a job there for life due to his extensive charity work in real life.

Well, producers come & go and what is the opinion of one producer might not necessarily be shared by his or her successors.

This is being brought up in Desperate Housewives, and is an incredible storyline.

When you see him on screen now, he looks a drunk and a layabout.

Kick him out!

I do like Les but just like all charactors there comes a time when things have run there course and this is one. But for me i would like to see a return of Toya to tie up Les's departure and i would like to see Les go the way he came in. With his origonal family. It would be good if he decided to get back with Janice and then him, Jamice, Toya and Leanne all went together. I was not a fan of when Leanne returned so i would like her to go permanentley.

I liked Leanne, she was the best of the Battersby's.

They should have never have split them up as a family. They were at their best days when all four of them were together.

I think the character of Leanne is going nowhere, and Jane Danson has grown up since she was 16, and i think the character is outlived.
