Requirements for setting up equipment for the first time.

I am considering purchasing some satellite equipment for the 1st time and would like some suggestions as to what I would need for a basic setup at minimal cost. Also some books would be helpful. I have at present a Sky dish and box which will have the subscription cancelled in a few weeks time and I intend using that for Freesat. I was thinking along the lines of a motorised dish mounted on the flat roof of my garage which faces South, as does the sky dish, and getting whatever box/es are required. I dont have a fixed budget but cost would be the deciding factor.
My home is in West Norfolk, UK. Any suggestions will be welcome. Please bear in mind that I am quite old so please keep the technical jargon to a minimum until I`ve got used to it. Many thanks.

Quite a lot of us on here are "quite old". It just depends on your definition of old.

You can get a basic motorised system including a receiver for under £150, but in this hobby you can spend as much as you want, as I am only too well aware.

Books? I don't know. Somebody who does may well be along before long.

The SatCure ebooks might be worth a look.
There is a free eBook about sky digital which I've just read which will be a good start if you don't know anything. If you want anything other than SkyDigital its quite limited.

Thank you for your reply rhubarbe, my definition of "quite old" is 89 next month but still very active. I will have to try and find a shop specialising in satelilite equipment in my area and have a browse around.

Thanks to you too nutter426, don`t need anything on Sky digital but will keep looking aroumd to see what`s involved.

There's actually more choice here:
http://www.The-Cool-Book-Shop.co.uk
and you can pay with Paypal. The "Installing Sky Digital" ebook includes fairly general advice for installing dishes etc. so it's not just for Sky.

89, eh. You should have chosen "Methusela" not "Meshuga". Or are you really crazy?

(I thought I was old at 56 but it seems I have a way to go).

Thanks Sam Radford, I`ll check that out. No, I`m definitely Not crazy although some members of my family might dispute that. Thanks for your reply.
