Aberdeen

I think the title will grab the right peoples attention.

A colleague from work (in Dundee) is moving to a new job in Glasgow but she is from Bridge of Don, Aberdeen. I want to get her something silly, but hopefully funny that might remind her of Bridge of Don or Aberdeen. If she was from Dundee I could get her something from Discovery Point, a Beano comic book or Dundee cake but what could I get that would remind her of Aberdeen? As I'm not from there I have no idea. I've asked my boyfriend who is also from Bridge of Don but the best he can come up with is a postcard, clearly we have no imagination. Any ideas?

Aberdeen is the Granite City, isn't it?
Buy her an ornament made from granite. Or go and get her a curling rock, they're made from granite. Though she might think you were crackers!!

I think that the Evening Express shop on Union Street has a lot of Aberdeen type stuff e.g. Aberdeen monopoly and that sort of thing.

They have a website that you can look so you can see if there is anything suitable. I'm sure you'll be able to find something.

They are at 170 -172 Union Street

Provost Skene's House, or the Maritime Museum on Shiprow would also be good places to go. Provost Skene's House only sells postcards (it's a shame the Tolbooth is closed for the winter, as they have some nice books and posters) but the Maritime Museum should have some nice stuff.

Also the Art Gallery shop.

I know a girl from Aberdeen, she's always telling me how wet it is.
I say to her, "look can we just keep this a straight friendly convo and not get rude"

I'd forgotten about the Art Gallery Shop as I haven't been there for ages.

Wrong sort of granite, though. Curling stones are made from granite from Ailsa Craig, off the Ayrshire coast in the Firth of Clyde.

I'd guess that Aberdeen granite isn't sufficiently fine-grained for curling stones.

Sorry for going somewhat off-topic. I'm a curler, though not a good one, I'm afraid.

Aberdeen granite used to come from Rubislaw Quarry, but it is disused now so I don't know where it comes from now.
