Mouse Moving Slowly.

Windows XP home-daughters PC. Anti virus protextion on and current, check just done, computer is clean. cleared out all non essential start up programs, and the problem is still there.

When the PC boots and the blue 'welcome' screen appears the mouse seems to be fine-it will move anywhere, but as soon as the list of users comes up, it slows to an absolute crawl- so much so that it is virtually unusable.

I've even tried to do selective start ups in msconfig with basic drivers only and nothing works. This has just started happening- I haven't installed any new progams or driver updates in the last month or so, so I don't have a clue what might be causing this or how to fix it.

I've fiddled about so much that when it re-boots now, it tells me i must re-activate Windows, but I don't want to do that until it's working ok again.

Anyone any ideas??

I suppose you've tried the obvious, and reviewed the mouse settings in Control Panel and/or the mouse driver?

Sometimes these get reset for no obvious reason.

Mine was the same until I changed the speed on mouse properties. I would suggest doing a factory restore and then sorting out the mouse.
