Britney's liposuction clinic visit - Thanks for the news....
... I'll tell you what i'll sleep great tonight after knowing that important information.
Do the media really think normal working class people CARE about Celebs and what they do. Victoria Beckham spotted in a expensive store buying a £50,000 watch for David...... who cares. Jade from big brother spotted in Burger King. (please note the examples above are made up but not for from the truth )You only have to open the sunday magazine which comes with the papers to see photos of Celebrities Spots, Sweat Patches, cellulite.... why, why, why?????? Last thing you want to see while tucking into your Sunday breakfast is some Z list sweaty spotty celeb. It's time the media gave celebs a bit of privacy because I'm for sure couldn't care less. Talk about rubbing it into everybody's face regarding how big their house is, the money they spend and the cars they drive. Here's one for the sun/star or even Digital spy to published.... I had a shower this morning then I went to the toliet. Feel free to send photographers out side my window trying to get that money shot. Rant over. |

It's the supposed mytique of celebrity that draws the attention. The fact that these people (who are actually just like the rest of us) have inordinate amounts of money to do the things that the rest of us can only dream about most of the time. By spreading titbits about celebrity life and excess, the media allow the general public a fly on the wall access to that rich life. The assumption is that those who don't have will want to live vicariously through those who do. Granted though, the media and the paparazzi are now taking it to the extreme. I don't personally want to know that some movie star or other has acne. I prefer movie gods and goddesses to be remote, eternally young and eternally beautiful or handsome. Unfortunately modern progress with things like zoom lenses, television and the internet has rather put the lid on the notion of mystique. Now all we get is the fly on the wall stuff a la Britney Spears melting down, shaving her head and allowing us to see her going out with her dinner still slopped down the front of her shirt. As dodgy as some of the old time celebrities were in their private lives, going out with their clothes still stained with their dinner was something they would never do. There's a sort of morbid and hypnotic fascination about a public figure going into a meltdown like that in front of the full glare of the media. However it's still all just assumption that we all love every little snippet, but it won't end as long as there are folk who buy magazines and buy into the whole celeb mystique thing. I personally can't see it happening because there are too many people who actually do like and enjoy living vicariously through the lives and wealth of others. It's so much easier than having to get off their arse and do something about their own situation. And as long as there are inequalities of wealth in society it will continue to be this way. |

Me? I didn't say I didn't care. That was the original poster.
Personally I find some of the stuff hilarious and I read it entirely for my own amusement, but I do read it. I wouldn't go so far as to buy any of the magazines, but I do look at links in forums like these and I read a lot of the comments with interest. It's a form of entertainment for me. If I wasn't interested I wouldn't post on this forum to be honest. I just wish they wouldn't go into so much detail sometimes.

It's a Sunday and I fancied having a RANT over something and having opened DS and see the headline I thought i'll rant about that.
I really want a Personal Assistant to organise my life would Living TV do a documentary about it:"Nick's PA" well why not Jade Goody had one about her. What makes her so inportant. P.S... I can't believe it. I've just searched google to see if Goody was spelt Goody or Goodie (couldn't remember, nor care) and shes even got her own Wikipedia page and website... jesus what's this world coming too..... The bit in bold is what makes her 'important'. The fact that someone has gone to the lengths of creating a page for her on Wikipedia or anywhere for that matter. That and the fact that you took the time to look her up for whatever reason.

Unfortunatley, there are people out there who do care, and there are many more who would rather spend their time on digital spy or perez hilton and reading Heat magazine and The Sun when the alternative is inputting data on a spreadsheet or cold calling people trying to sell solar powered umbrellas or something equally useless. Sad but true.

Yes it could be seen as 'sad', but it's also their choice to do that. And for a lot of people who are perhaps housebound for whatever reason, forums like this are their only way to access other people. We don't know what any individual FM's personal situation is. I would never be so quick to condemn people for wanting to read the gossip mags or visit forums, they can be very addictive.

I didn't mean sad as in 'ugh what losers' i meant sad as in actual geniune sad, its sad that we often haven't get anything else to do or entertain us because we have a crap job on a crap wage, or are housebound as you said or whatever reason we are here for, its a bit sad in the true sense of the word. I'm one of those people after all! I didn't condemn anyone, you misinterpreted my post.

As a society we are so quick these days to call people losers without even knowing about their personal situation, it's a horrible tendency. |

Well I was out of commission for over a year and housebound after an accident and waiting for surgery, so I know what it's like for the only means of communication with other people being my computer and the internet. It gave me a bird's eye view of what it would be like to be disabled and housebound and an immense empathy for those who are. To be honest the internet and various forums were one of the only things that kept me sane!

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,4-2007150861,00.html Is it sad or what that the media actually takes the time and wastes paper to report that a joke of a celebrity has a stain on her blouse? Just pathetic.
