Understanding your dreams
Uggh even as I type this my toes are curling up in horror
. I am generally an odd sleeper or so I've been told, for as long as I can remember I've both walked and talked in my sleep and when stressed about something these have gotten worse but have never bothered me. Occasionally I've had a nightmare or two but again nothing that the average person doesn't have and once I wake up thats it over and done with. Over the last while though these have changed a little and I was wondering if anyone else has had this dream or can offer any (further) explanation of it. I grew up in the countryside and many of my uncles were farmers so myself and my brother and sisters spent lots of time on their farms with our cousins and so unlike many other girls am not in any way scared or fazed by spiders or insects or picking up frogs or other such things. The only thing that I cannot stand and would be scared of is a rat and I mean I hate hate hate them, even thinking of them in context of writing this makes me recoil. Over the last while I've started to dream about them and the dreams always go like this: I'm asleep in my bed and a rat starts to nibble away on my toes and I wake up terrifed and have to wake my boyfriend up to get rid of this rat. Last night again I had a dream about one, this time however I woke up to find it on the floor wandering through a pile of clothes but determinedly making its way toward me. Again I woke up and was really scared and had to wake my boyfriend up to get rid of this rat. I've googled this dream and the best explanation I have come across is one that (especially regarding the toe eating) says I'm stressed and affected by the rat race in a work sense. The other one says that I'm having unworthy thoughts that I'm keeping to myself but are eating me up. They can also signify feelings of doubt guilt or envy. I'm just wondering what any of the rest of you think of this or if you've had similar dreams? |

I think your fear of rats is coming out in your dreams.
Dreams can have deep meanings but often they are just the concious manifesting itself sub-conciously. |

I don't think I've ever dreamt about rats. Not that I recall anyway.
My old 19th century dream meaning book, says the following, FWIW, about rats:- "To dream of rats denotes that you will be deceived, and injured by your neighbours. Quarrels with your companions are also foreboded. To catch rats means that you will scorn the baseness of others, and worthily outstrip your enemies. To kill one denotes your victory in any contest" |

Have you got a problem in life that is literally 'chewing away' at you? Maybe it is something you would rather not confront.
The rat signifys a deep fear (in more ways than one), that fact that it nibbles at you could signify that you have unresolved emotions/fears/problems that you need to bring into the open, or at least acknowledge. When the rat tries to wander through your clothes, it could be that your sub-consious barriers are blocking your true emotions. I do know that once you have figured out what a recurring dream means it will not bother you again.
