Help Needed setting up TV with Other Equipment
Hi guys
my grandfather has very kindly just given me his old SONY 28" Widescreen TV, it`s this model http://www.homecinemachoice.com/revi...KV-28LS35U.php he has bought himself a SONY Bravia 32" LCD, lucky so and so ! i will be getting a Sony LCD in about 6 months time, a bit skint at the moment! anyway, my question is this this TV has only got 2 x Scart sockets on the back of it i have a Brand New Toshiba DVD Player to go into 1 of those, a SKY+ box to go into the other, a JVC SuperVHS Recorder, and lastly a Phillips DVD Player/Recorder i dont use my VHS Player that often to be honest how can i use all this equipment with only 2 scart sockets and 4 items to go into this TV ? on the back of it, i have 1 x S-Video socket what do you recommend i plug into that? my old TV here had 3 x Scarts on the back so it was a bit better for adding more stuff http://www.homecinemachoice.com/revi...hiba28W8DB.php any help would be great MANY THANKS

I suggest the following SCART connections
Sky+ (AV1) --> (AV2) DVDR (AV1) --> ((AV1) TV DVD -----------------------------------> (AV2) TV This will let you archive recordings from Sky+ to DVD. I suggest you only bother to connect the VCR to the TV via RF co-ax lead. Which way round you daisy-chain the RF co-ax patch cables depends if you will be wanting to record from VCR to DVDR or the other way round (for your Luddite friends). For example Sky+ --> DVDR --> VCR --> TV Note that the Sky+, DVDR and VCR need to be set to modulate different UHF channels. Last edited by gomezz : 12-04-2007 at 00:23. |

for the moment, we can leave the SKY+ box in this setup, but im getting rid of it because we no longer have SKY anymore, im off out on Saturday to buy a FREEVIEW PVR for about £150
the 2 x Digihome PVR80 units we already own have been jumping.... took them back to ARGOS and will buy something else.. so i have 2 qualified Aerial installers coming round to advise me on a quote on how to improve my signal and what aerial i need..etc etc i have a feeling now that the freeview boxes were fine, and that it was the fact i needed a proper aerial fitted on the roof, instead of stuck in the loft cheers Last edited by Waynester : 12-04-2007 at 01:46. |

well is the tosh dvd player you got HD ?
to get the best out of everything it has to be RGB. Now the problem you may or may not have is ' the wife'. Setting everything up to get RGB is great but if you are the only one who can understand whats going on will drive you and your family mad. Anyway you could get a RGB scart splitter and put everything on av1 or do this. dvd-rec av1 to tv av1 sky+ av1 to dvd-rec av2 tosh dvd av1 to tv av 2 to watch sky/ your new telly box simply switch dvd-rec on standby and it will loop through on av1. to record from sky to dvd-rec simply select av2 on dvd-rec and press record Now for your video I would consider throwing out/ putting in another room or feed the aerial signal into it then the new freeview box then tv. Just watch it through RF as you hardly ever watch it and save mucking about with cables and stuff. Some scart switchers will allow you to have RGB signals passed through to tv av1 and this is your best bet. http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...l/Product.html The question of gold scarts is sure way in here to start arguing. ' a good shielded scart ' is what you require and this is not a bad price for one http://www.kenable.co.uk/product_inf...d19e5850403c8b they also do scart switchers but I dont think there RGB Your new telly when you get it should have 2 hdmi sockets as this is the way forward. To learn more click on installer training http://hdmi.com/learningcenter/installer_training.asp and then you can get HD/ BLU RAY dvd recorder when they come out and throw all your old stuff out. |

Okay - i figured it out!
the S-Video cable is just for the picture! sorry !! i have now connected up 2 more audio cables from the VHS Player to the TV and i now have Audio aswell as an ok picture!! by using the S-Video cable, is the quality not as good as Scart ? seeing as i have NO other scart sockets on the back of the TV apart from the 2 in use.. i guess i have no other option? saying that, im very pleased with it all working.. MANY THANKS Wayne Harris Oxford www.wayneharris.co.uk |

i have no idea.. you may well be cheaper with sky. Try a google search.
try humax for freeview recorder. when you cancel sky your card will automatically allow you to view freesat, which may well give you the channels you are missing. you can pay sky £10 for the sky+ facility per month. Taking into account the £150 for humax you might be cheaper with sky visit the sky website and see what you get for FREESAT and then top up tv |

I dont think you get many/any extra channels now; you get a download of about 100 programmes a week to the HDD selected by them from a range of channels. Plus you get a PVR of course. But I do not have it so dont go by me; check out the TopUp forum; some people dont sound happy, some do. Richard |
