Sitting At Home All Day?

How do these unemployed folk sit at home all day? I've been off since Monday on 2 weeks holidays and find it really depressing to be honest, I wouldn't have taken these 2 weeks only works been really slack so work sort of told me to take my 2 weeks now as summer is our busiest period.

Add to that the weather has been awful here, compared to last week, its rained none stop so can't really go anywhere, i've done all the odd jobs I can think off, my wife says i'm a workaholic.

I think people who are unemployed find other things to do with their time. When I'm at home I spend all my time online, and often wonder where it all went.

I'm at home all day too, and I can find plenty to do. lol

And just for the record, no I don't claim any benefits.

I feel the same way, during the week I always tell myself I'm going to do so much during the week end. When the week end comes I do nothing most of the time. I think it's because we don't usually have time off and when we do we don't know what to do.

No one was saying that (although I was thinking it) LOL
I don't think there's anything wrong with getting benefit but most people would agree it's a difficult position to be in, financially of course.

And the hardest thing is just when you start to get used to being at home, you have to go back to work and thats an even bigger struggle

Tell me about it, even though I like keeping busy and staying at home would be a nightmare for me (for the first three weeks) I could barely bring myself to go last Monday.
I think they should decrease working hours, although we all need the money.

I've been off work 2 weeks now and I'm going spare.

Oh well only another 8 1/2 months left. Think I'll cope.

I'm hating it at the moment

Normally I'm busy with my 3 year old, but due to pregnancy problems with my pelvis I can't move anywhere unless it is very slowly on crutches, and am just not in a fit state to look after him. He's spending his time either at pre-school or with grandparents.

I spend my time either online, or doing my OU study.

Still, trying to look on the positive side, baby should be here in 3 weeks and apparently the pain goes away more or less straight after birth, so back to normal then

i have had to have 2 weeks of work because i trood on something at a family barby and had to have stictches

at the same time frame the previous friday was told i am likely to be one of the 3 people given their notice as the company was losing money

so as of yesterday i handed in my resignation taking a few weeks out of work then looking for a new career path - something worthwhile.

my point is that the last 2 weeks have gone slower than i could ever imagine, i have no idea what to do with myself, most the time i just sit about listening to music going over the same old websites all the time n visiting the family.

I've been sitting at home all day for two years now and I hate it! I'm not well enough to leave the house on my own so I'm stuck in the house too. A friend comes round at about 4 sometimes to take me for a cuppa and my OH is home at 7pm normally but time really drags. Family 200 miles away! Spend too much time on here.

I thought you were supposed to be able to choose when you want your holiday?

I am at home all day and quite frankly I wouldn't have time to go to work, there is just so much to do with housekeeping, gardening, shopping, dog walking, etc etc. I don't have time to be employed, thank goodness I don't need to be.

Depends on the business and job, my wife just had to have 3 weeks holiday because the Uni canteen she works at was closed.

I have trouble being at home all day - although its rare.

If im at home with my husband, then i love it - and we do things together.

But, if for some reason im home alone, whether it be because im ill or unexpected holiday - then i feel restless and guilty for being home. Even if i am using my holiday allowance i feel like im swinging the lead, and should be using my time pro-actively.

Yes, I understand. I had a career for 15 years so used to working too! It's hard making the adjustment.

Its bloody awful sitting at home with nothing to do all day. I had a disabling illness for a few years and couldn't get out at all and was bedbound and in one room only for two years. When I was at my illest I was just too ill to care but the rest of the time when I was able to sit up I was very bored and very isolated. The internet helped enourmously but it doesn't replace human contact

Many unemployed people and pensioners get depression and I can't say I'm suprised

Putting aside the whole 'unemployed' issue. I would go insane if I had to spend two weeks at home.

I do love having a few days holiday to spend pottering around, cleaning (yes cleaning ), preparing nice meals etc but after about a week I would be climbing the walls.

OP - can't you go on holiday / visit friends?

I'll swap places with you. It sounds bliss to me.

I work largely from home, only travelling when I have to, so I end up sat in front of a computer or on the phone for quite a large proportion of the day.

I'm home educated and my parents don't work now, which I'm sorry to say since I think one of them could go out and get a job!

But anyway I... do a bit of work, write, dance, go shopping, go for walks, care for my pets and of course go online... So that's pretty much my schedule in a week.

As for my parents, one knits herself to sleep and the other cramps his legs to sleep in front of a tv and a pc.
