What if Blazing Saddles had of been made now?

What if Blazing Saddles had of been made now.

Yes this film is built of racist jokes but it is very funny.
I totally disagree with all racism but this was a comedy.

I am not going to go on and on but I have a feeling that this film would be banned if it was made today.

Would it be banned?

I very much doubt it - it was quite obviously mocking racism.

Why do people have this idea that censorship is now worse than it was in the 1970s? Look at Team America or South Park The Movie - they are considered very offensive by some but still got made and distributed.

The point with this film is that it shows how stupid and ignorant the white folks are! It is a great film!

If Mel Brooks was involved, sure. But the script wouldn't be the same without Richard Pryor's involvement IMO. He was unique.

Richard Pryor wasn't in it

I doubt it would cause much of a stir, not when films like Borat are being made

I thought you were attributing Cleavon Little's character to him, which I could never allow to happen (I have an unhealthy interest in Cleavon Little )

I've never cringed so much during a film in all my life.

Cleavon Little's part was originally written for Pryor but the studio refused to insure him and the part went to Little instead. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Pryor)

Comedy racism is riding high in the TV popularity stakes at the moment but sketches like Little Britain's Ting Tong and Catherine Tate's Interpreter sketch are portrayed with none of the satiric subtext of Brooks's film, IMO.

South Park is worse and that's a hit show.

I totally agree. I especially detest the Little Britain Ting Tong sketch, I'm surprised that the BBC show it.

I think the film could be remade as it portrayed a satirical look at racism and took the fun out of the racists which in my mind is perfectly acceptable.

However, the scene featuring the sheriff kidnapping himself and saying "If you don't let him go I am going to shoot the n****r" would never be allowed again!

Funny this thread has come up we were only talking about this very subject and film with some friends the other evening !

I don't think it needs to be re-made, the original is quite good as it is.

I loved it when the lookout was trying to shout "He's a n-" but then the bells chimed and they thought he was saying "nearer"

I'm so glad Pryor didn't get it! Little played it with far more subtlety than he would've managed IMO.

(Plus he's gorgeous).

Without doubt the funniest bit of the movie is when Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little need to get into the queue and decide to steal the KKK outfits. They go up to the KKK men and Clevelon goes

"Where the white women at"

I wet myself everytime!!

Trouble with this film was that I went to see it so many times I started laughing prior to the scene in anticipation!

Didn't half annoy the rest of the audience!

Even worse one of my 13 year old sons friends is called Mungo, and everytime he phones I can't help but pass the phone to my son saying "telegram for mungo, telegram for mungo"

The original movie has something for everyone - besides the famous farting sketch, I especially like the way the hero watches the end of the film on a movie screen and drives off into the sunset.
