Can anyone recommend me any good Irish bands...?
... I mean, in the sense of playing traditional Irish music. Obviously there's the Pogues, but I wondered if there were any similar artists out there... I'm a big fan of the Irish sound, and I'd like to discover what's on offer.

Hmm...I know of one...not sure how good they are.
They're called " Dervish " and they're doing the Irish Eurovision entry, they definately sound like their homeland on the Emerald Isle! Or ... The Corrs They have a few twangs of Irishness in their music.

Well I rushed in to shout 'ASH' because they are the best band on the planet
but they do not play traditional Irish music. Try 'Flogging Molly' for traditional Irish music.

Clannad are very good, they have a traditional folk sound; you've probably heard of them already though.

Not *technically* Irish, I suppose, but The Waterboys are well worth a listen. They have the World's finest fiddle player (that's not official, btw, but my opinion!)

Anything with Donal Lunny on it should be good. Not sure what he's doing now, but his CV is an instant guide to Irish music.

If you can get your hands on "Erinsaga" by Jim Fitzpatrick you won't regret it. Irish Celtic mythology set to some stunning music. May be hard to get now, but worth searching out.

The Chieftains - saw them in concert years ago and they were brilliant - try the album "Boil the Breakfast Early"
