I hate my job :(

As some of you know, I recently started working in a new store after hours.

I thought it would be great as I got to work for a clothing brand I adored and wouldn't have to deal with customers

BIG mistake!

I have now come to LOATHE the brand and the yanks they've shipped over to run the store.

1. I've never seen such a bunch of anal people in my life. I'm surprised I don't have OCD by now!

The folds in the clothes have to be perfect, the collar & the hem *has* to line up (even though XS is shorter than L ), the labels *must* be in a perfect line ... and all this for the same set of tops!

2. They act all and nicey nicey to your face, but you just know they're smiling through gritted teeth.

3. Most of the workers hale from Columbia and a lot of the time they're not speaking in English That aside, they are great at folding clothes!

4. They (the folk in charge) rush you like nobody's business! They want everything to be stacked perfectly, yet expect it all to be done in a nano second.

If everything goes well with the second job that I have lined up, I might just pack it in.

Heck, I might just quit any way. I'm not greedy enough to stay in a job that makes me miserable.

Rant over!

Do any of you guys hate your job?

Just work at your own pace, don't be bullied by anything. Personally if I truly hated a job i'd quit immediately, afterall you yourself are the number 1 concern not some shitty job or peoples reactions.

CASABLANCA

That's exactly how I see things!

I think I'll ask if I can be transferred to day time first, though.

More than a week ago they had me collecting jeans from the stock room and lifting them above my head to get them into the slots ... the jeans weigh more than I do! My shoulders have been hurting ever since

Toxic Bunni, you are too good for that. Give it a little more time and like you said, try and get on to days, but if it is still sh!te, call it a day. Sounds to me like they are just looking for drones to mould into their own image, whereas you seem to have a lot about you and won't let them get to you.

It's hard working like that, my advice is always the same in this situation

get a small part of a wasp or something similar, stick it in some tea, drink it and react to the taste...

yes in this situation it's best to: Add a Crumb Bee and Flinch

I used to think A+F were 'cool', mainly because they weren't over here, but now that they are I can see them for what they really are ... the complete opposite of cool!

I have so much of their clothes as well, I might sell them on ebay or something.

Luckily for me I'm still a student so money isn't that important me - still living at home etc.

I feel awful for people who are essentially 'stuck' in full time jobs that they detest because they need the income.

Haha, you reckon?

Hmmm, how much do you think 13 folded up mens 34x34 jeans weigh?

I may look into this!

If you received no training in lifting them, if it seemed that there was no consideration given to your ability to lift them, if you were required to lift them over shoulder height, if your shoulders hurt for hours afterwards - then it looks to me very much like the company were in breach of health and safety guidelines.

It'd probably be very difficult to sue them on your own. If you were in unionised work then you could create real problems for them with union backing.

May be best to simply get another job - but writing a letter to the health and safety executive about it all would certainly be a good thing to do. Hopefully they'd get an inspection and would be forced to treat their staff with more consideration in the future.

Thanks for that, I'll write to them

I already have another job lined up, just need a MAC code from crappy orange so I can change my ISP.

I don't think I'll leave there though, I get free clothes. I don't like the brand, but who says no to free expensive clothes?

Ahh - so you like the job really.

Its well worth writing to the HSE. You could even try asking them for advice about how you should deal with a similar situation in the future - they're a government department and should be there to help you (whether they do actually help is another matter).

Don't want to spread scare stories - but it is possible to damage your back by lifting incorrectly or lifting too much - and you're well within your rights to point that out to your employer if they want you to do any work like that.
