Dublin

In Dublin this weekend, just to lounge around and see some sights really. Any suggestions for things to do other than the standard Guinness factory tours, Book of Kells etc. ?

Here's some:

Viking Splash tours
http://www.dublintourist.com/details...sh_tours.shtml

Dublin Walking Tours
http://www.glidetours.ie/

Literary Pub Crawl (this is supposed to be great fun)
http://www.dublinpubcrawl.com/booking_page.htm

Hope these help, even if not I'm sure you could find other links on these sites.

Book of Kells is a little outside of Dublin in, er, Kells, but it's a nice place to visit.

If you're willing to go out of Dublin for a longer period of time, then a visit to the county of Cavan is nice. It has 365 lakes and is utterly beautiful.

Glad to see you've got the Guinness brewery on your list. That is good stuff

Book of Kells is in Dublin university, isn't it? (well, it was when I was there a couple of years ago...might have moved)

Make sure you spot all the statues - the floozy in the jacuzzi, the tart with the cart and the stiletto in the ghetto

There's some cracking bookstores in Dublin too.

Ak, I'm jealous. I want to be there now.

Have a good time Lemoncurd, I loved Dublin, it so wasn't what I was expecting when I went there.

I'm off to Ireland myself in a couple of weeks, can't wait. But I'm off to the wilderness not to groovy Dublin.

That's odd, it was held in Trinity College last time I was there!

I could be wrong. Last time I was in Ireland, which was a while ago now, I'm pretty sure it was in Kells. Or maybe that was a copy being taken back to it's original home?

There's a traditional Irish restaurant called 'Traditional Irish Restaurant'. You could go in there and have some stew.

Or, go to the viking museum and marvel at the large wooden boat. There is another place too, where you can put yourself in stocks, or dress up as a medeivel knight. Can't for the life of me remember where it was though. Maybe that was the viking museum too, or maybe it was somewhere else. Memory getting a bit hazy now.

I went to a few clubs when I went, but it was about 10 years ago so may have changed. Trying to remember what clubs they were now, though. I remember I went to one called 'The Kitchen', which was ok, but I only went because it was owned by U2.

Ah yes - bullet holes from the uprising are a must as well. And if you go into a pub near the river you can guarantee someone wil be on stage singing 'Danny Boy'.

The Book of Kells is actually located in the old library at Trinity College in Dublin City Centre.

Is the floozy back? I know they packed her away when they were putting The Spire up. I was in Dublin a fortnight ago and didn't see her. Where is she now?

And the book of Kells is in Trinity College. The one in the C of I church in Kells is a copy of it, made in about 1990.

Reminds me of an old joke

Q. What's black and blue and floats face down in the Irish Sea??

A. An English comedian who attempted to tell an Irishman joke in Dublin

I'm off to Kerry, past Sneem. We've rented a beautiful remote stone cottage which is sitting on the bank of the Kenmare River, near where the river meets the sea. I plan to spend the week reading, relaxing and looking at the view,. Andy plans to spend the week getting drunk on Irish whisky.

I'm so looking forward to it. The last time I was there was in 2001 and I absolutely loved it. Scenery to die for and really friendly natives.
