I think you're unlikely to go to a party and expect to drive home anyway these days.

And what if you don't drive?

I'd be on public transport. Don't think a bus ticket would suffice.

what if your mate had a battered 1980's escort ,and you had to drive it home, that would be embarrassing.

I think the Op is refering to the party game "throw your car keys in a jar"
Whichever keys you pick out you get the partner of the car key owner.

It is called wife swapping.

This is a form of swiniging, the womwn select the keys or vice versa and the owner of the keys then becomes your partner.

It just doesn't work on so many levels. I'm beginning to think it's an urban myth from the 70s.

So how do you organize it to go smoothly? I assume you must have equal numbers of the genders and check no-one's gay, check everyone's got a car, then ban alcohol from the party?

What happens if you drove an automatic and picked out a set of keys for a manual? lol

That a non-starter then?

I went to a party like that. Got my keys picked by a beautiful woman. But it was a bit embarassing, because she lived in a mansion and I could only manage a semi.

I'll get me coat.

No , nobody drives anywhere.
People come in cabs.
Throw house/flat keys in a jar.
The ladies pick out a key then you know.. get some time with the owner of said key.

Always get cabs home
