The "New eye looks a bit too much like that of Big Brother 4"

the title should read "the "new eye looks a bit too much like that of big brother 4" thread"...

sorry if this has been posted before...

so the colour scheme for the new eye is bright, colourful, NOT evil...and a bit too similar to that of big brother 4...

the producers almost certainly wont repeat the big brother 4 format, considering the 'lowest ever ratings' it got...but it is almost equally unlikely that they would repeat the popular series 5 format...actually the equally popular format of big brother 3 would be a reasonably sensible medium between carnage (bb5) and dullness(bb4)

However, bb4 was deemed "the series of love" by producers, and this years series seems to verge towards "collectiveness, PEACE MAN, etc etc." This said,
the only reason i can see the producers repeating anything near that HAPPY (read: considerably uneventful) series is if they want to have a quiet year following januarys catastrophe, and then rebuild for next year...

Worried thoughts?

It looks nothing like the BB4 logo! The only relation is that it has multiple colours in it.

BB4 did not get the lowest ever ratings.

BB6 had the lowest ever ratings.

That didn't stop them from doing BB6-like BB7.

But congratulations on posting the fist "it's another BB4" complaint.

BB7 wasn't my favourite series, but it definitely wasn't anything like BB6. The housemates in BB6 were all horrible people. The housemates in BB7 were big characters, but were nice too. 99% of the BB6 housemates were disgusting people.

Yep, wondered when we'd get that!

Yeah, the eye is a bit similar-ish to the BB4 eye. They should have gone for a completely new design this time round, to mark the (supposed) new beginning.

ooooooooooo yeee...just checked wikipedia...still, it wasnt exactly a succesful series, and many fans seem to consider it the worst series...the desperate measures of camerons trip to africa, and the staged bomb scare, suggest the producers agreed...

I don't think they're going to be all nice like BB4, this new eye could turn into something disturbing, if it's "test card" imagine, the title sequence being something like with the girl, blackboard and clown, except an evil clown, hmmm..

Wasn't anything like?

BBs 5, 6 and 7 were all anti-BB4 BBs.

For 5, 6 and 7: They made the house more oppressive. They cast HMs likely to clash. There was endless interference in nominations etc. There was an annoying alarm to force HMs to get out of bed. There was a HM who may as well have been picked to be week-one eviction fodder (Kitten, Mary, Shahbaz). The HMs divided into two conflicting groups with some "floaters" left over.

Now, just 6 and 7. Let's see ...

* A "punishment" that put all (or all but 1) HM up for eviction.

* Housemates allowed to hear the eviction crowds.

* A big twist that was: new housemates brought in via another place (Secret Garden, House Next Door) with one HM able to meet the new ones first and forced to pick one to leave behind (Makosi - Kinga, Aisleyne - Jonathan).

* An endurance / patience task (boxes, standing on boxes).

There must be more, but that should do.

Now count the desperate measures in BBs 6 and 7 ...

They need to do what the audience wants for the show to stay alive. Another evil one may just kill it. They can't risk another CBB5 incident.
As long as they don't cast really dull housemates, it'll be OK. BB4 housemates seemed to all be the same. They all had the same personalities and came from similiar areas.

People seem to forget the following:
  • In BB1, the housemates could step foot outside the open door, and see and hear the outside world
  • There were nominations twists during BB3 and BB4, as well as in BB1 when nomination scheming was taken lightly until the last minute
  • Davina would casually talk to the housemates over the tannoy in any series

Why can't they? It got the show a lot of publicity, "everyone" was talking about it, viewing figures went up. They'd done bullying as entertainment before; they had the "racial divide" in BB6. If another CBB5 is as bad as it might get, why would they fear to risk it?

Because the Channel 4 board ordered an enquiry to "identify any lessons that can be learned for the future." I don't think the lesson they learnt was that (allegedly) racist bullying means higher ratings.

The question I was addressing was whether they'd risk it. Now recall these threads:

C4: Racism Row Saved "Boring" Big Brother

Bb Boss: Race Row Saved Us
