How pathetic can some companies get ?

Just reading the BBC website and there is an article about KFC asking a pub not use the words "Family Feast".

What is the world coming to when companies can pick and choose what words can be used.

What do you think ?

full article ....

Quote:
A country pub in North Yorkshire is taking on an American fast food giant which claims it is using one of its trademark phrases.
The Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in England, has been told by Kentucky Fried Chicken to remove the words "family feast" from its menu.

KFC's lawyers said the company owned the copyright to the wording.

However, the Swaledale pub's landlords said they would fight to use the term to describe their Christmas meal.

KFC's lawyers were first alerted to the use of the phrase by the pub, which stands 1,700 feet (520m) above sea level, after finding a reference to it on the inn's website.

'April Fool's'

The Tan Hill's owners then received a letter asking them not to use the "family feast" description for the festive meal, which includes Guinness and stilton pate, roast turkey and Christmas pudding.

Owner Tracy Daly said she thought the letter was a late April Fool's joke.

She said: "We've been using the phrase to describe exactly what it is - a feast for the family.

"It's an all-day lay out of food that we put on at Christmas and it sums it up perfectly."

She added that they were determined to keep fighting for the right to use the "family feast" description to help defend the freedom of the English language.

A spokesman for KFC said the case was in the hands of their lawyers.

That sounds a bit tedious.

Although i do remember not long ago in the news, a pub having on their menu:

'The Barrymore' - with the description, faggots swimming in gravy!.

They had to alter their menu.

Yes that was a bit tasteless, though i'm sure the faggots were great.

Banning the use of generic words like "Family Feast" is another matter though, i'm surprised KFC could get away with it.

That could be seen as reasonable for obvious reasons, but family feast, does this mean KFC are going to check everything for the words family feast !!

It's like McDonalds banning everyone using 'I'm Lovin it'

How ridiculous !!!

Does that mean , for example , that everyone with the surname " McDonald " is going to be sued by a curly headed , red nosed clown ???

Total farce !

This is ridiculous, if I went to the park for a picnic with my family and said lets have our family feast should I expect to be taken to court for using the term "family feast". The bosses at KFC must have nothing better to do since the test tube chicken claims made against them .

Odd that they say KFC own the copyright in the wording. I would have thought it's a trademark issue - and whether a trademark for fast food prevents use of the same expression for all food.
