Oh don't sing that song. It is now linked to Shaun and people will just think of him.

You have a nice voice though.

Very brave, putting your attempt on youtube.

Well, I`ve listened to it and you have a nice enough voice but you couldn`t sustain the easy note at the end and you sounded strained and nervous IMHO. If you`re this nervous just recording the vocals, how are you actually going to cope in front of the judges and the tv cameras?

Also, I think you should try to do something more original with the song. The judges like originality. Your voice isn`t strong, but if you can get a dash of originality into the song, you may interest them enough to put you through. You need to grab their attention and I don`t think that rendition (as it stands) or song choice will do it.

If you have a good image - that`ll help too! Hope you`ve thought carefully about what you`re going to wear.

Lots of luck to you.

Don't sing this song, it's just Shauns song now basically and you don't want to be linked with him!

You don`t know who Shaun is? Do you actually watch X-Factor?

Shaun is the very young, nervous guy who almost made it to the show but only managed to finish one song due to his nerves. Simon chose Ray instead of him.

He came on to the final show and sang the song you`ve just sung. Not a dry eye in the house.

If you decide to sing that song you`ll just invite comparisons (and not favourable ones IMHO) with him.

Again I'm just posting in regards to the sound and not mentioning any of the technical stuff.

I thought it had a nice sound to it and could imagine myself listening to it. I listen to a lot of independent artists when I'm on the train and I'd happily stick you in my rotation

I do love that song but as people have said it's been done and you don't really want to be compared to anyone else.

How about trying something quite different?

I reckon you could pull off something like tears in heaven by erm..that bloke (sorry rubbish memory).

lol...well i think its safe to say, i should try and stay away from that then....alot of negativity regarding that song so just keep that as a back up.

Thanks for the reply again jason....it means alot....

Alot of people have said they like the tone of my voice and i can asure i can reach the notes the end...i wouldn't waste my time applying i knew i couldn't.

I think the hardest thing is chosing a song that works well with my voice.

Thats what i need to concentrate on now.

Keep the advise coming guys....you have no idea how much i appreciate all your comments.

Hi Dave,

Your voice is nice but afraid nice isn't enough to get through the rounds. There's something there though (behind the nerves).

The first thing you need to work on is your breathing as this effects so many aspects of singing. It helps with vocal control and also helps the nerves. So to try and explain by email:

As you exhale, your tummy should pull in and as you inhale your lungs, tummy and abdomen should expand, like a balloon it goes flat as the air goes out and expands as the air goes in. Practice thsi as much as you can, it also helps with the nerves if you breath slowly like this before you go in to the audition.

Once you've learnt to breath like this, the next step is to control the air flow by using your diaphram and your abdominal muscles. This is what is meant by 'singing from the diaphram and will stop your voice sounding 'thin'. By controling the air flow, you will be able to hold the long notes and kick in with more power when needed. Practice singing with your hand on your tummy and as you breath in your abdomen should expand, hold it and then as you sing pull in where you need to.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense, I'm not a vocal coach and it's difficult to explain without showing you. If you had time i would say that a few session with a good vocal coach would really help you but if you can work on the breathing to help you sustain the longer notes it will help in this short space of time.

You need to be able to project your voice as the judge (producer will be sat quite a way from you). As you walk in be confident, smile and try to relax. As you sing make each word count and occasionally make some eye contact as this is a sign of confidence. Don't look up at the celing whatever you do.

Most of all try and enjoy it for the experience and the're always next year if not this year.

Good luck

I don't think it's necessarily negative surrounding that song, considering how well Shaun has done..but it probably is good to establish yourself as different from past competitors.

I know I get tired of everyone singing like Mariah Carey songs or something. When I watch and I see someone come and sing something different I like it.

Kind of like what Ashley did in his audition

You sound nervous when you sing. You may not be nervous, but you sound it. There`s no power in your voice and I`m sorry to say that you didn`t hit that last small note at all.

Not being nasty here; just giving you my honest opinion. Unless you do something to grab the attention of the judges then I don`t think you`ll make it through with your voice, however nice the tone of it is.

Just did a quick internet search - Sean is actually releasing that song as a single at the end of the month!!

Dave,

Forgot to say, I agree about avoiding Shaun's song. As a female vocalist I don't really have any suggestions but will happily give my opinion on any other songs you have up your sleeve. When is your audition?? Do you have enough time to prepare at least three (two as back up!).

You need to know your chosen song, inside out and back to front as the last thing you need to be worrying about is forgetting the words...which is an absolute no, no

Think carefully about your image, don't overstyle but look good, like you have made an effort. Why don't you let us know what you'll be wearing.

as I said in last thread you need to work on your breathing. Another poster has already mentioned it and their advice is good- take it

I'm not going to beat about the bush, don't sing that song mate and being brutally honest here, you're voice isn't very good and I don't think you stand a chance, so you might get through.

I agree with those who said dont sing that song
also your voice is sweet but has no edge
you sound young, try singing something that you believe in and put some edge into your voice to sing the meaning of the song
I have heard worse singers get through and being male there is less competition, there are usually more females who audition than males especially younger males.
I think your voice may suit "Just the way you are" or maybe "your song"
just a few throw away suggestions, I'm no expert!
but you really need to throe yourself into a song vocally and emotionally.

If you haven't got a lawyer, get one and sue your singing coach.

Oops, sorry, thought I was Simon Cowell for a minute...
