Why do you think anyone would want to apply for Big Brother?

After all these years and the history now attached to BB, why would anyone want to go on the show?

Who from the last three BBs has had any type of real success? What is the desperation shown by some to be on t.v., or become well known? Is it all to do with money or is it something else?

Why would anyone want to put themselves through this do you think?

Well unbelievable as it may sound, I would like to go on big brother for the experience, meet some wierd and wonderful people who I would not normally meet, do some fun and silly tasks. The fame side doesn't appeal so much to me. I wouldn't mind doing some interviews for the tabloids, if they're paying for it then why not! I guess I'm in the minority?

From the show's start, few have found lasting success.

However many have done very well out of it. BB has provided them with money, experiences & opportunities that they would never have had otherwise.

Have you ever applied?

With the way BB is going now, you may not get picked if you just want to do it for the experience. I don't see anything wrong with getting paid for your story of your experience. If I knew someone personally who wanted to go on BB I would advise them not to. I would have said different about the first three BBs.

What I find strange is why some H/Ms seem to be prepared to just about do anything for fame and money. This is so true for those who have nothing more to give after being a H/M. And why should any H/M be deemed a celebrity just for appearing on a t.v. show?

For the money initially, perhaps some go in there with some grand illusion they will be "spotted" and become a celebrity, but I suspect the experience would be great to look back on and perhaps give an insight into how others perceive us!

I agree.

Since the show has changed so much and BB seem to go more now for car crash t.v., it seems some people want to be a part of that car crash t.v. and sell themselves for no other reason than fame and money. The willings of some to allow themselves to be humilated so long as they get on t.v. and are like cannon fodder to the producers baffles me.

I remember when those who were prepared to put on any kind of act in their application video's just to get picked were always discarded and we got a fair amount of decent H/M in most respects, now it seems these crazy people are top of the list. (to me anyway)

I think most HMs have fairly realistic expectations these days and don't appear to be "desperate" or willing to "do anything" to get on tv either. (The "hopefuls" on The Word, for example, seemed closer to fitting those clichés, and for far less in return.)

BB remains an interesting experience, and fame for any reason can have its downside. (For example, websites appeared that were devoted to slagging off Katie Leung when she was selected for the role of Cho Chang in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", and some of the comments on the phenomenon made some points that ought to be familiar, about young people wanting fame and how she should have realised that there'd be bad aspects as well as good. Perhaps a "talk of doom" should be given to actresses who audition for Harry Potter films.)

And as EddyBee has pointed out, "many have done very well out of it. BB has provided them with money, experiences & opportunities that they would never have had otherwise."

It would be reasonable for someone looking at BB7 to think "Richard, Lea and Aisleyne got radio shows; Imogen and Ash became better-known and more successful as models; Grace got to do Cirque de Celeb; Nikki had her own show and was a guest on many others; Jennie got to make some money from a photo shoot and return to a reasonably normal life" and so on. Most of them appear to think it was a worthwhile experience as well.

I agree with some here, it's the experience of actually going in, being put in a different environment for a change and being isolated from the outside world for so long.

And also allowing others (the truthful people) to see what they think of me. The only concern I would have is the mass amount of editing and the image that BB might of stuck on me on their photographic pin board.

You have the very young, who for some reason think they have the key to getting through the show. They are the ones that say they want to do it for the experience.

Some people just love a challenge. The tougher and more damaging the show gets, the greater the challenge for some people.

Then you have all the wannbe presenter type's.

Then we the fame chasers, who just don't want to be part of the main herd and want to stand out. They want fame for fames sake. (Makosi, Narinder)

Then you have the usual crowd of the exhibitionist and weirdo's.

And the you have what I personally consider to be the most annoying of housemates. The ones under the illusion that they are talented. (I wont mention what hm's come under this title as it will cause too many rows.)

I suppose some are seeking fame, but I think mental illness plays a part in it..before anyone says 'but don't they check them out before they can enter?' I say to you; look how long Harold shipaman went undetected

If I was younger, healthier, had no skeletons in my closet and had 3 months to spare then I'd be tempted.

In fact anyone should have a go at auditioning, just to get an insight on how it works. You can always back out if selected.

I found the auditions to be quite fascinating even though I didn't make it past the first cut

It just seems these days that if you haven't got an agent backing you up, showbiz connections, or have been a reality tv reject before then you have little to no chance of getting on the show

Wasn't it Susie who made systematic applications to BB to help forge her media career? It didn't really get her very far did it? Do people still believe that they will be able to maintain a 'celeb' career off the back of BB? Did Pete think that the win would help promote his musical ambitions/band?

You obviously need a hell of a lot more than looks and talent to carve any form of long term career post BB.
