Strange Windows Theme Problem

I run XP Home and I have always used the windows classic theme.

Today, all of a sudden when I re-booted, the theme had changed to the XP blue taskbar & start button, kept the correct old-style start menu, but had also changed the window style to the XP one.

Control panel showed I now had a "modified theme" so I changed back to windows classic. Everything changed back OK but when I re-booted next the incorrect "modified theme" had returned.

I've even tried saving the windows classic as a theme under a different name but it still didn't work.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Cheers.
