Sex With Mum And Dad

This was seriously one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a long time. Those crazed parents. Those poor kids. That dangerous psychotherapist. And the Dad's reaction when the kid asks his Mum what sex means to her ('its just something you have to do.') Jeeeez.

I'm glad I didn't see this. Incest of any kind just makes me shudder. It's one of those things I just can't accept on any level.

I thought that breaking that generation gap of embarrasement was a great way of healing the sexual suppresion that contaminates our society.

It was only disturbing that it highlights how stifled sex is in the UK.

Top marks I say!!!

Call me old fashioned or whatever, but I think some things are best left untalked about, the intimate details of one's parents' sex lives being one of them. I seriously disgaree with this assumption that not talking about something means you are repressed.

I only watched about 5 minutes after turning over from Virgin School, which again I only watched for about 5 minutes. But the bit I saw, I felt realy sorry for the young girl, she will probably be in therapy in years to come having had to endure her parents talking about sex on national TV.

Yes I think it was humour. The progarmme was obviously not about literally having sex with your parents.

Personally I think that not talking about something doesn't necessarily mean you are repressed, but the reasons for not talking about something can indicate a suppresion.

It's well known that sex is a commonly stifled and supressed subject in this country. And the subject of mmense embarrasement for many. Which was clearly evident by the program and the amount of 'embarrased laughter' during the discussions. In the UK showing a willingness and openness to talk about sex often gets accusations of being 'obesssed by sex' by those uncomfortable with sex as a subject.

I think it's great that these programs are helping to break down these silly barriersand taboos and bring sex as a subject that's as open as any other subject. After all there's no reason why it shouldn't be. Breakign down generation gap embarrasement is a great way to start. IMO.

On the contrary it wasn't freaky at all. it was a sensible program that was trying to lift the lid on sexual suppression.

"Sex With Mum And Dad"
"Ian Hislop's Scouting For Boys"

What is it with the rather suggestive (yet not literal) programme titles these days?

This is exactly the nonsense that program was trying to address.

One day you will be as old as your parents and you won't think it's "Eurgh" then.

Besides if it wasn't for "Eurgh" you wouldn't be here. or were you a test tube job ?

Apart from the occasion on which I was conceived, my parents sex-life is nothing to do with me. And mine is nothing to do with them.

But its not the thought of older people having sex that the kid's hated, it was having to hear the intimate details of their parents's sex lives (as well as having to discuss their own sexual habits in front of their parents.) This almost universal reaction is perfectly natural in my opinion (possibly Nature's way of discouraging incest,) not something that therapy should attempt to 'cure.'
The reaction of the kids (who looked severely traumatised and angered) and the rift it opened between the parents showed just how dangerous this form of therapy can be.

I've got this on again [ BBC3 ] - I missed the start of it before....

I can't believe how sexually suppressed this family is. The teenage daiughter in particular.

I can see where the teenage daughter get's it from..... Twice in the first 5 minutes the mum has used the word 'dirty' when referencing something sexual.

It's got nothing to do with age! Nobody likes to think of their parents having sex...

That's a bold claim. It doesn't alarm some people.

Sorry, I didn't see the programme - is it repeated again?

I was just wondering - is the programme saying that it is 'unhealthy' or an indication of sexual repression to not want to think about or hear your parents talking about their sexual relationship? (Just curious - I'd like to see the programme to see what the gist of it is).

And people on this forum sometimes say punctuation doesn't matter, all this show needed was a comma after the word sex and everything would be fine!
