YouTube comments
Why do so many of the comments on YouTube contain vitriol or are phenominally poorly written? Almost 60% of the comments include stock phrases like "You f***ing idiot" or "lolz da dude woz pwned". You'd have thought an organisation the size of Google could have splashed out on a few hundred mods to keep the place a bit more pleasant.
It kinda puts me off using it more. |

I love youtube comments
Sometimes they are far more entertaining than the video! Some of the comments are so silly they're genius.

Does anyone ever read the YouTube comments? I've never bothered. Perhaps it's to do with everyone intelligent enough to leave a measured comment being too busy doing other things to do so, hence all comments are written by no-marks.

Occasionally though, you can have a decent discussion over comments - even if you have to span cos of the silly 500 character rule.

My brother (aged 12) writes comments on his own videos like: "OMG that is totally awsome", and "You are so cool dude"...
It drives me crazy.

I stopped allowing comments on one of my videos because I was sick of the spam/chain letters and having to delete them. I don't know how many times I deleted "post this to 10 videos or your mum will die in 4 hours". Funnily enough, my mum's still alive............

I can't stand the spamming or those chain letters. Really annoying. Some of the users seem to be a bit lacking in the grey matter.

The chain comments are infuriating. youtube will maybe start to ban them from what I hear.

Agreed a lot of the posters seem to have the intelligence of a mayfly. And throw into the mix they can't spell and use text speak makes them look even less intelligent.

my brother makes a lot of films which are on youtube and he gets some of the most inane comments ever. some people even post video responses which appears to be quite an effort to go to, just to leave a completely irrelevant comment. some can be fairly amusing though. Some absolute half wit left a video message on a french music video saying "umm i couldn't understand it, could you put subtitles on it please?" to which lots of angry french people responded. It was quite astounding

I hate the spam\chain ones. It is like that on Bebo as well. You get idiots leaving comments on videos and other profile pages such as: "Check out my page" on totally irrelevant page. You also get things like: "To increase your profile view by 10,000 hits, then check out my blog for the secret". I have even seen this mentioned: "I now have the bebo gold skin for being the 3rd runners up for having the most bebo views" When you go on his page he only had about 100 views and loads of comments from strangers telling him what a liar he is! I personally don't use bebo though.

I like the ones on the Rammstein videos, especially the ones on the Amerika video... Half the Americans thought they were praising America the other half started going on about stupid stuff and all the Europeans just laugh at them and get annoyed when we get 100s of posts calling them Nazis...

Most of the people who leave comments there must have the brain the size of a pea, I wasted 2 minutes of my life reading a argument between a couple of morons over who's country was better out of USA and UK.

Even so, some of the comments on here border on inane. And this discussion can be quite academic... |

When I started watching stuff on YouTube I found the comments rather irritating, but about a fortnight later I'd watched every music video ever made so I was done with it.
![]() I'd say a majority of the stuff there is either inane or offensive. Obviously it means nothing, but if you're looking for a vaguely empathetic opinion on a song, one that might match yours or even stimulate you, then, well, "ur" usually doomed! Most of the comments, good or bad, seem to be written by white North American teenagers - goodness knows why I think that. Dude. |
