The London Thread

I thought it might be nice for us Londoners to have our own thread to discuss London stuff, without boring all those people who live outisde the capital, and who can't stand the place!

Anyway what are your favourite areas of London? Some of my favourites include:

Soho - so buzzing, especially at night, and it still feels like a community

Richmond Park - its hard to believe you are actually still in a capital city when here, and the deers are cute.

The Mall - the drive up to Buckingham Palace feels so stately

Camden - such a unique atmosphere and vibe

Borough market - food heaven, and a nice maze of old streets as well

and some of the worst:

Elephant & Castle - yes they are doing it up, but for the time being its still a horrible area

The new riverside flats in Vauxhall - what a disgusting looking development, will look so dated in 20 years time

Euston Train station - apparently the original station was beautiful, the current one is souless

The only nice parts in London are the rich parts, unfair, but that is life.

The Midland Grand Hotel at St Pancras, and the South Bank on a sunny morning. You either love everything about London, or you hate it. I personally couldn't live anywhere else in England (originally from Scotland).

As a south Londoner, the only time I venture East is to go to uni - should have gone South Bank!

East London is just a useless waste ground in my opinion. Can't stand it.

Well using that line of thought the only nice place anywhere is the rich part.

Obviously you have a different idea of what's nice to most of us.

Oh Richmond park, missed my walk/jog today, get in a hour tomorrow with a bit of luck.
Shame it's getting warmer it'll be full of idiots when the yellow orb starts doing it's thing, it's nice and quiet now.

Oh as someone mentioned Soho (don't go there myself) some say the reason why it has such a village feel is because there are no buses around there, plus people actually live there.

Oh on the South/East London thing, I find East Londoners a bit cliquey myself and some of the rougher bits of the A12 and A13 deary me.

In most instances what you said in the first paragraph is true.

As for the second paragraph, who dares disagree?

What parts of e london are you referring to?

I don't kno why, but when I think of e. london - it conjurs images of drab buildings, poverty and the blitz ....but it's not all that bad.

I loved Portobello Road when I lived in London. Oh and the Notting Hill Carnival. Aside from that, I'm glad I don't live there any more.

I think the real London split is not north/south, but east/west - as the vast majority of the wealthy areas are in the centre and west.

Same here, with the addition of Crouch End (I have to include it as it's where I live), Primrose Hill, Frognal, St John's Wood, Little Venice, Maida Vale and Kensington.

My favourite walks are along the South Bank from London Bridge to Westminster and up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square and Kenwood's great for walking around in the summer.

Favourite shopping areas are Borough Market, the Selfidges end of Oxford Street, Kensington High Street and Soho.
