New Virgin Media Big Brother Sponsor Idents Here....

Just seen they've posted the new VM sponsor indents for BB8 on Digital Spy...

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcas...er-idents.html

Not sure I like them much, what's with all the subtitles?

Can't they just say what they do best.... '2 for 20', '3 for 30' and '4 for 40' and 'VIP', awarding winning Broadband etc... surely this is straight to the point and they'll sell more.

These adverts tell you nothing about your products... Just look at the title's of each one

- Got a Virgin Mobile Contract
- My Mobile Is Better Than Yours
- Check Out My Mobile Phone Package Baby
- V Festival
- Fast Broadband

Is VM trying to be to cleaver again like it was with Uma?

Come on Virgin, this is your big chance (look what it did for TalkTalk and Free Broadband at the Carphone Warehouse)

Yet another bunch of adverts that don't actually advertise the product...

I think they are really good but I doubt that they'll get the point across...

Did you sign up to Carphone Warehouse because it sponsored Big Brother last year?
The "point" is just to get the brand name into the public consciousness.

They're hardly memorable like the Carphone Warehouse ones either, just a load of foreign clips with subtitles and a logo...

On those type of ads it is stipulated that you are not allowed to mention price nor go into detail about products.

They are shockingly poor.

If you not staring at your TV you would never know what it is about. Just as a programme goes to the ad break people stand up and walk away from the TV. At least if they were in English you would hear about the company.

One of them last night had a woman crying with the tag line "Virgin Media, For A Happy Home" eh? how does that work?!?

Why have then not done something similar where they get some fake housemates and have them talking about their great Virgin Mobile contract, or their super-fast broadband.

They could have them talk about it in the lounge, kitchen, while in the pool, lying in bed, in the diary room, while eating dinner.

They have no connection to standard TV adverts. The viewer should be able to see the connection between the two, you see the sponsorship advert and then in the actual break you see "2 for £30" or "4 for £40".

These are far to disjointed from the actual product.

That's not what sponsorship is for though, it's all about raising brand awareness, sponsor credits are short and limited to just a few words or a single set of pictures / phrase. It's simply about getting your name out.

If I didn't tell you why I was asking or prep you and I asked you to name:

A) a brand of chocolate

B) a car manufacturer

C) a mobile phone company

You are more likely to name the ones that get the most name repeats or flashes into your head, that's because each time you see something it creates a link in your brain, the more times you see it the stronger the link (or neural pathway), then when it comes to product / brand recall the ones with the most pathways flash quicker. If you have not experienced the product people also tend to blur exposure / strong branding with quality.

Virgin seem to be interested also in making the brand sexy, modern and hip, rather than a bog standard telecoms brand like NTL was.

This is good, what's not so good is you need to explain the product also, you do this via mainstream ads. You are advertising 2 things, the product or promotion, then the brand, you have to sell both of these, sponsorship works on the brand and enhances the main commercials, which sell the promotion / the product.
