Saving private ryan - C5 - errr...Harts War?

I thought SPR was meant to be on C5 tonight (they've been plugging it and it's in the freeview schedule) but Harts War is showing.

Does anyone know if there's a reason or is it a screw up?

I was wondering the same! Even had it as a scheduled recording until I flicked over to it.

Still, Film4 has Trading Places on it. Just waiting for Jamie Lee in that dress.

I asked Five and had this reply:

Date: 31st May 2007

Dear Correspondent

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Saving Private Ryan.

Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties we were unable to screen the film as planned on 30th May; these issues only came to light after we had scheduled the film and while we did notify the press listings that a change had occurred, unfortunately those publications that had already gone to press would have been carrying incorrect information. Our rights to the film have now expired and we will not be able to re-schedule it.

Please allow us to apologise for any inconvenience.

If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your interest in Five.

Yours sincerely

Philip

They were running promos the night before......and updating the Freeview listings can be done almost in real time.

I'd fear for the 'privates' of the man responsible. Something tells me he is in a *very* uncomfortable meeting with his boss right about....well now actually

Well it does sound alittle far fetched. Even if the DVD (if that is what they use) is scratched, surely they have backup copies?

It's the bit about 'unable to re-schedule' that gets me wondering. If it really was a technical problem, they should be able to show at a later date?

Their right from the studio to show the film expired (they are only allowed to show the films in their deal for a certain time period before having to renew). Being cynical, it might be that the rights had already expired and the technical fault was actually the last minute discovery that they weren't allowed to show it.

That sounds more like it.

'A last minute copyright hitch' would have been more honest...
