Anybody not eat eggs for ethical reasons?

I can understand why people choose not to drink milk, because of the way cows, goats etc, are kept in an unnaturaly permanent state pregnancy.

I can also understand why people might refuse to eat shop bought eggs, because of the factory farming methods employed.

However, I can see no ethical reason why you shouldn't eat eggs from free range chickens, or ducks, kept by a neighbour.

Could someone please enlighten me?

'Kept by a neighbour' is the key phrase there. Because i saw a programme in the way some free range birds were kept and it was appauling. They were let out for an hour or 2 a day to run about. Apart from that and they were penned in. Free range is not much better than battery.

I meant someone who keeps half a dozen chickens/ducks as "pets" and offers you an egg or two each day.

A "certain amount of fertiliser" is on pretty well everything we eat.

There's no reason to assume there will be a greater amount in the eggs produced by chickens, kept in your neighbour's back garden.

I imagine it's because they have the possibility of turning into a living creature.

I only buy barn/free range eggs because I hope these chooks are kept in slightly better conditions to their caged counterparts. The government should ban battery farming, it's disgusting and inhumane.

Anything grown in your own or neighbours back garden must surely be the most organic you can get I grow all my own herbs my self (corriander, basil, thyme, mint), but thats as far as i get.

But there is still the possibility, unlike with something like milk for instance.

How can an unfertilised egg produce a chick/duckling?

They're only white because of the breed of bird they come from.

I don't eat them but mainly because they've got a bit too much fat in them for a tiny piece of food and I don't like 'em that much.

For me the key to a nice egg is a RUNNY yolk. Nadgers to all that salmonella nonsense, if its hard boiled you may as well not bother. I want something to dip my chips and soldiers into.

I mean if it was fertilized, which isn't the case with other produce such as milk.

Chickens eggs that are are supposed to be unfertilised. Just like a human womens unfertilised eggs - period/mentration? Hence the need for a cockeral.....? Take away a man and there will be no baby, unless your a shark

Besides if there is a chicken inside you're getting two meals in one.
